Spike's Flying Home Parrot Sanctuary

Spike's Flying Home Parrot Sanctuary We specialize in small to medium parrots. We do NOT adopt our birds out. We provide them a safe, permanent home. We are not a 501(c)(3) organization.

Many come to us traumatized, elderly, or ill, and live out their remaining lives in our care.

Bo
Blue Opaline quaker
Approx 3 yrs old

Bo landed with us in 2024-owner moving out of country and their species are illegal there.
Bo was in liver failure when he arrived. He is on meds, suuplements, and a prescription diet along with his fresh food to help manage. He is missing a toe, we are unsure why. They smoked in the house, which we quickly started baths to rid of the residue on his feathers.

Today he thinks he is th boss, he can not be out with any other bird but Boo. And is very controling when he does not get his way. He is a lover and a character when he isnt being controlling!

Boo (Personal bird)

Goffins Cockatoo

I adopted Boo in 2015, he is 19 years old!

This man is a lot of trouble LOL
We hired a behaviorist, changed routines, upgraded his cage to the biggest one, spent thousands in supplements, vet visits, toys, medications etc.

His issue? He is a cockatoo! He feather barbers (breaks pieces of his feathers off) due to bordom, change in his routine, not enough baths, not enough human interaction, hormones, and anything else he deems he dislikes.

Today, we have it managed to where he will allow his feathers to grow back, but every year around the same time, he starts with his feathers and breaking them.

He loves his dad, loves meeting new people, going for car rides, being outside, and being the center of attention!

Noa (blue female in front of Mom)
Max (green, blue, yellow, white, black)
Badger (light blue)

Pint landed with us in 2024 with Mom, Green Bean, and Badger. Ages unknown. Owner surrendered due to not enough time. All were relatively in good health. We had to change diet and get Mom's horomones in check since she was laying eggs excessively. Today they are loving the flock life and enjoying their forever home.

Grape landed with us 2017 from a rescue we used to volunteer for. Age is unknown, he is at least 10 years old. He was surrendered with 3 other parakeets. He lost his flock due to poor diet, and lack of veterniarian help from his previous owner. Grape is the boss of the flock and he knows it!

Jade age unknown-approximately 5 years old. She landed with us around 2021. Owner did not have time. Besides the all seed diet, she was and still is a healthy bossy little girl.

Mickey: He landed with us around 2022-owner did not want anymore. Age unknown He fell in love with all the females LOL but keeps close watch on Mom. He is a healthy little man and loves his baths!

Esme and Sq**rt: Esme landed with us around 2023, age unknown. Sq**rt landed with us in 2022 after a woman found her outside, These two are very bonded. Sq**rt is a chronic egg layer, so we have to take extra precautions to keep her safe and watch for excessive egg laying. She is a very bossy and vocal little girl!
Esme landed with us around 2021 after owners did not want. Besides changing and correcting her diet and showing how parakeets should live, she has been a very sweet girl

Noa/Max approxiemantely 1-2 yrs old. Landed with us 2026. Owners were afraid of them breeding and did not want to cause issues with Noa. It took a while to switch them to the proper diet and get them used to how a parakeet should live, but today they are thriving, Noa is not chronic laying, and they absolutely love their fresh food and baths.

Badger, Mom, Mickey ages unknown, approximately 1-5 years old.
Mom is the mom to Mickey, Badger, and Pint. (We do not know for sure) Besides changing their diet, monitoring Mom for chronic egg laying, and showing them all that there is more to their life than bredding, they are thriving and love their baths!

Snowy

Albino parakeet- approxmately 2 years old
Landed with us Feb 2026
Owner no longer had time for her
She came in with a fungus infection in her crop. Was on meds and placed in incubator. After about 3 weeks she was on the mend. She was introduced to the flock after her 30 day quarentine and fit in immediately.
She is very sweet and reserved, but loves to be talked to.

Pluto (personal bird, adopted from The Charlie Brown Rescue)

Blue opaline Quaker
9 years old, adopted in 2020
I had just lost a green quaker, Sweetie. She was from a hoarding case. An old broken wing injury and eye injury. She was with us for 8 months, we lost her to organ failure. Losing her was a hard blow for me for many reasons. I wanted to honor her by giving another quaker a place to land forever.
I reached out to The Charlie Borwn rescue, filled out their application, spoke with Amanda (owner), provided videos of our home, set up a time to go to Ohio to meet her flock. Covid hit, we waited until June of 2020 to meet the flock. I met 3 quakers, all very sweet. Pluto stood out the most for me, He was stand offish, only wanted Amanda, and did what he wanted. After us being there about 2 or 3 hours I explained Pluto was the one becasue I felt he would be harder to adopt out becasue he didn't like to warm up to people fast. Pluto was and still is her baby. We keep in touch. She is a huge help for our rescue at times.
Now this little monster lol rules the roost, still does what he wants, makes everyone laugh, and loves his cuddle time (on his terms!)

Sissy
Parakeet
Landed with us- found as a stray outside in 2022

Age unknown
She is a fiesty little girl, chronic egg layer. She stays with the cockatiel flock to help control her hormones and egg laying. Along with a strict sleep schedule, calcium medication once a day, and a healthy diet.

She has been to the vets for trouble with egg laying, we have dummy eggs and keep a very close eye on her to help prevent being egg bound.

Manny ( He is my personal boy)

19 year old normal grey cockatiel

Manny landed with us back in 2007. Owner could not take the screaming.

Fed an all seed diet, no outside cage time. He was bored. This dude is a trooper, quickly switched to healthy foods. Fell in love with our Spike (Sanctuary named after him) and learned how to be a bird quickly.
Once Spike passed away, he bonded with Neko. Where Neko goes, Manny goes. He loves head scritches, singing, and following Neko around

Albert and Foxy

Ages unknown- guessing 12-15
Albert (eating from bowl) normal grey cockatiel
Foxy (up top) normal grey cockatiel

These two landed with us in 2019 with another cockatiel, Grandpa (passed 2024 from diabeties we believe) these guys were fed an all seed diet, no out of cage time.
All in liver failure. They receieve medication daily along with prescription pellets and supplements to help maintain their organs.
Albert and Foxy are supposably father and son, Albert has a heart murmur in which we are monitoring and provide a special heater for his bed. (When birds are sick, they shiver which uses their calories, causingway too much weight loss)
