🐾 SMALL SHELTER. BIG IMPACT. 🐾
We wanted to share a little perspective on animal shelter capacity in our region and what it means for the work we do every day.
🏠 Dog Kennel Capacity
• Lyon County Animal Shelter — 44 kennels
• Washoe County Regional Animal Services — 110 kennels
• Churchill Animal Protection Society (CAPS) — 18 kennels
• City of Fallon Animal Shelter — 21 kennels
It’s important to remember that shelter size often reflects the population and needs of the community it serves. Larger population centers, such as Reno/Washoe County area, naturally require larger facilities, and more kennel space to accommodate the greater number of people and animals they serve.
It is also important to recognize the animal shelters everywhere or struggling. Large and small shelters are facing many of the same challenges — limited space, in increasing numbers of animals needing help, larger stays, and the constant need for adopters, fosters, volunteers, and community support. We are all working towards the same goal: helping as many animals as possible. ❤️
Here at the City of Fallon Animal Shelter, we may be a small facility, but we work hard to make the biggest impact possible.
With just 21 dog kennels and a staff of four, we care for approximately 1,000 dogs and 600 cats every year. That means animals are constantly coming through our doors—strays needing a safe place to stay, pets waiting to be reunited with their families, and animals looking for a second chance through adoption.
No matter how busy we are or how limited our space may be, we do everything we can for each and every animal that comes through our doors. Every animal matters to us, and our team works hard to give them the care, time, attention, and opportunity they deserve.
Our size comes with challenges. Space can fill quickly, and every kennel matters. But our team continues to do everything we can with the resources and space available to provide quality care, reunite lost pets with their families, find homes for adoptable animals, and serve the people and animals of our community.
We are proud of what our small team accomplishes each year and incredibly proud to serve this community.
🐾 4 staff members. 21 dog kennels. Around 1,600 animals cared for each year.
We may be small, but our commitment to our animals and our community is anything but. ❤️
