🐹 Case Update & Reveal!! Meet Mom and Her 4 Healthy Babies! 🐹

Earlier today, we asked you to guess the species from an X-ray— the answer is a (VERY PREGNANT) guinea pig!

Guinea pig pregnancies are very different from dogs and cats, and this case was considered high risk for several important reasons:

🩺 Why was this so risky?
• Guinea pigs have large, well-developed babies at birth
• If a female guinea pig has her first litter after 7–8 months of age, the pelvic bones can fuse, preventing normal delivery
• Once dystocia occurs, both mom and babies can decline very quickly
• Cesarean sections in guinea pigs carry a much higher risk than in many other species

Why did she need a C-section?
This mom was only 10 months old, but it was her first pregnancy, and her pelvic bones had already fused — meaning natural delivery was not possible. Without surgery, neither mom nor babies would have survived.

The Outcome:

Dr. Sherman and the FGVS staff are incredibly proud to share that this case resulted in:
✔️ A healthy mom
✔️ 4 live, healthy babies
✔️ A smooth recovery for everyone involved

Cases like this don’t always end this way, which makes this outcome especially meaningful to our team.

📢 Holiday Hours Update

We’ll be closed this Thursday and Friday for the holiday and will be back open on Saturday from 8:00 AM–12:00 PM.

Today, our whole team at Fair Grove Veterinary Service wants to take a moment to say thank you to all of our veteran clients, neighbors, and friends. Your service, your sacrifices, and the lives you’ve touched along the way mean more than we can ever fully express. We’re proud to care for your pets, proud to know you, and proud to have you as part of our FGVS family.

We also want to recognize two people who have played a big role in shaping our clinic and have also served our country with honor:
