In six hours, ticket sales for The Catalyst Ball will close.

And somewhere tonight, another cat like Sunny Side Up will need someone to save them. To believe they’re worth fighting for.

Most of our stories are told at the end, with a family smiling ear-to-ear, holding a cat carrier in front of the blue wall that reads “Where Cats Become Family.”

But for many of our cats, that moment is still far away. Right now, we’re in the middle of Sunny Side Up’s story. And at the same time, we’re in the middle of determining what the rest of 2026 will look like for the cats still waiting for us.

At first, we didn’t know how Sunny’s story would end.

She wouldn’t eat, drink, or go to the bathroom—nothing. She was curled up in her kennel and declining fast in front of us. Multiple veterinary opinions followed as we tried to understand what was happening.

There were x-rays. Bloodwork. Medications. IV fluids. Appetite stimulants. Supportive care that changed day by day. Rechecks that brought more questions than answers. Constant monitoring. Nights that ran later than planned.

After two weeks of holding our breath, slowly, Sunny began to come back to herself. She was stable enough to move into a foster home.

The stretch of time where a cat is not okay yet, but not gone, is one we’re often hesitant to share. Sometimes, despite everything we try, the outcome isn’t what we hoped for. But we still show up. Every single time.

On May 30, The Woman’s Club of Evanston will be full of people choosing to say yes. People showing up.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, this is your moment.

Ticket sales close tonight at 11:59pm.

“As lifelong animal lovers, we have always known how important the need for cat rescue is, which is why Paws & Claws means so much to us. What started as a simple desire to make a difference, has grown into a wonderful community that feels like family. Every cat we help reminds us that hope is real and that small acts of love can change everything.

We are truly excited to volunteer at the Catalyst Ball again this year because it is the moment when our entire community comes together to create the biggest impact of the year. This event fuels the work that saves the most vulnerable cats who deserve a second chance. If you believe in compassion, connection, and doing something that genuinely matters, we would love for you to join us for a night filled with purpose, joy, and lasting impact.”

“Over the year and a half that I’ve been with Paws and Claws, I’ve seen a community that’s built on genuine empathy and respect in every single interaction. Everyone manages to embody kindness and patience, even while working passionately to save lives in frequently stressful situations. I’ve had the chance to see that combination on full display when the shelter performs surgeries.

“Supporting Paws and Claws isn’t just a matter of helping to save animals, it’s about placing your trust in those who strive tirelessly to keep this work and community going. I cannot overstate how much the heads and hearts of everyone here are in the right place to make the most impact possible. I think that’s why The Catalyst Ball is such an appealing way to contribute, as you get to not only facilitate life-saving work, you’re also simultaneously celebrating the ones who dedicate their lives to making it happen.”

Cats like Sunny Side Up are why The Catalyst Ball matters.

When she came to us, something was clearly wrong. She was lethargic, refusing to eat, and curled over like she was in pain. Despite everything, she remained so affectionate while our team fought to figure out what was happening.

Over the past two weeks, her care has included 3 vet visits, 2 sets of x-rays, appetite stimulants, supportive care, and countless hours dedicated to helping her recover. One of our incredible volunteers, Parker, even came after his shift at GoodVets to provide additional care because everyone involved refused to give up on her.

After all that, Sunny Side Up was strong enough to continue recovering in a foster home with Susan H. Susan had been volunteering all week and knew that Sunny Side Up’s critical condition required a calmer environment.

This is what lifesaving looks like. It’s emergency medical care. It’s experienced volunteers. It’s fosters opening their homes. It’s resources, time, and a community willing to step in when a cat has nowhere else to go.

Every dollar raised at The Catalyst Ball on May 30 helps make stories like Sunny Side Up’s possible. It helps us continue saying “yes” to cats who need extensive care and a second chance.

Sunny Side is here today because people chose to be catalysts for change. We hope you’ll join us in creating that same lifesaving impact for cats who still need their chance. Purchase your ticket(s) today.

Today marks Shanti’s 2-year anniversary with Paws and Claws Cat Rescue! 🎉 Where to even begin?

For the past two years, Shanti has been the driving force behind the advancements you’ve seen at Paws and Claws. From growing our impact to helping shape the future of our organization, her passion and dedication have transformed what’s possible for the cats and community we serve.

But beyond all she’s accomplished, Shanti is a light within this rescue. She leads with compassion, creativity, and an unwavering belief that we can always do more for cats and people in our community.

Simply put: we would not be where we are today without her.

Thank you, Shanti, for everything you pour into this mission every single day. Here’s to two incredible years—and to all the lives still to be saved because of you. 💙

Twenty cats arrived from our friends at Vermilion County Animal Shelter yesterday!

Last week at the Best Friends National Conference in Salt Lake City, I met their Shelter Director in person for the very first time. Since 2024, our partnership has existed almost entirely through phone calls, emails, intake lists, and quick greetings during transports.

Over the past year and a half, we’ve taken in 92 cats from VCAS.

During our conversation, we gained a deeper understanding of the reality their shelter faces every day. As a shelter holding a government contract, they’re taking in animals regardless of available space or resources.

This is what partnership looks like. And it’s only possible because of the support behind us.

The Catalyst Ball is not just a night of celebration, good food, and dancing. May 30 will directly determine our ability to respond in moments like this. It’s the reason I was able to look a shelter director in the eye, hear the reality they are facing, and say, “We can help.”

Be a catalyst with us. Tickets are on sale until May 20.
