A bat has tested positive very close by in Wilmette, which is a great reminder that rabies is out there and pets need to stay current on their vaccinations to stay protected. Many people assume that if their pet is strictly indoors, most household cats for example, then they are safe from rabies. However, an astonishing fact is that some bats can fit through an opening 3/8 of an inch wide! That's tiny! An additional reminder is that rabies is not just spread by bats, it can be spread by multiple kinds of animals. All pets should be protected with a rabies vaccine. Rabies is nearly 100% fatal. Please speak with your veterinarian for further information.
