Rabies is nearly always fatal once symptoms appear, but vaccination can protect your pets. Bats are a common source of rabies exposure in Illinois, and they can find their way into homes—even putting indoor pets at risk. Cook County requires dogs ans cats (and ferrets!) to be vaccinated against rabies. Unsure if your pet is up to date? Give us a call!

Did you know all mammals are capable of being infected with and transmitting rabies? Even cute cuddly ones like kittens! In recent years, cats have become the most common domestic animal infected with rabies because many cat owners do not vaccinate their cats, and cats can be exposed to rabid wildlife, either outdoors or when bats get into the house.

Here are 6️⃣ ways you can prevent this disease and protect yourself and your animals. Visit avma.org/Rabies to learn more.

Rabies vaccinations are important for all pets—including indoor only cats! Rabid bats can enter homes, and their bites can be so small that you may not realize you or your pet has been exposed.

Rabies is nearly 100% fatal once clinical symptoms develop, but it is preventable. Please contact us if you're unsure whether your pet's rabies vaccination is up to date. Current clients can also view their pets' vaccination status through the pet portal: https://mobile.poe.idexx.com/login/EAH

A bat tested positive for rabies in the 15300 block of S. Kilpatrick Avenue in Oak Forest.

Ensure your pets are safe from rabies by staying current on their vaccinations. Cook County Animal and Rabies Control is hosting free rabies and microchips clinics through October to help keep your pets protected. See clinic details: http://cookgov.me/petclinics
