Gracie should be able to come home today!!! We waited for a call yesterday but know no news is good news. Tim called before 10pm to get an update and they said they would get a hold of the Dr. to contact us. Dr. Gray text that Gracie did well through out the day and with refeeding. Sheeagerly ate which is exactly what we wanted to hear. Thanks for praying!
We had a very busy day yesterday. We had our oldest grandsons soccer game. We've missed several so made sure to go yesterday. It's also his birthday Monday. I came directly home to attend a wedding ceremony that was only 7 miles. After the ceremony, I came home to photograph an extended family session on the 34 acres from 5:15-7pm then directly back to the wedding! I tried to post an update last night but fell asleep with the phone in my hand. I woke up around 1am and added an update at the top of one of her post.
Thanks so much to everyone who donated which made it possible for her to get the needed help!!! Thank you Dawn Clifford Rivard for helping with keeping up with the post. I felt like I was running most of yesterday.
There was an area on Gracie's face that was deeper than it visually appeared so they stitched it closed. I wondered if her face was sore which made her not want to drink as much which could have led to the impaction.
Gracie is also one of the few that I always worry about with colic. This is her 3 time. She colicked twice within 6 months of her coming to the rescue. The 22nd of this month will be 3 years of her being with us. Gracie has always seemed to not want to drink as much water when it turns really cold. We put heaters in waters to help her drink more. Our temps did drop in the 40's starting a couple nights ago.
We've also had a really difficult time this year finding really good quality hay with smaller stalker the way I like. Which really cuts down the chances of impaction colic. We simply can't afford to feed all the horses the square bales of Bermuda hay that some of the horses on the 9 receive. Gracie is too obsessed with Vic to live on that side. Prayers we can locate round bales of hay soon.
I'm sure most know but Gracie's tail is not this long as it is in the photo. It had been docked before we got her like most draft horses tails so the tail don't end of getting caught in equipment. This also makes it impossible to swat insects. But isn't she breath taking? Tim took the photo and I played with it in AI. This photos makes me want to offer princess photos with her.
We do not have a total yet. Tim has to fix the trailer lights today but hopefully can pick her up before lunch. I have another long session today. He said several truckers honked on him on the way home Friday night. He pulled over and tried to repair but couldn't. He said it was the most difficult drive home without falling asleep. It's always a concern for me because he has fallen asleep at the wheel several times before and flipped a car 5 times before it stopped. Which is why I always ask for prayers. I usually stay awake and talk to him but I fell asleep that night.
