Often when I am riding, I'm trying to find a spot to quit.
The thing is, most people pass that opportunity ten times. They just didn't see it because they were looking for perfection and not ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐ก.
๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฟ๐! Sometimes the time to quit is just a simple try.
Maybe that horse gave just an inch, give him the reward for the try. Next time he will know what you're looking for.
This applies in the show pen as well. It doesn't mean reward because it was the perfect pattern, but because it was a better maneuver in a pattern.
Here is a little personal experience from me.
We've been showing a lot lately and a horse that is showing hard can get a little strong in the show pen. I may have to sacrifice a run or two by slowing down the pattern and rewarding correctness.
I stay on the pattern and show, but do it at a slow controlled speed.
You can't worry about the score, just worry about your horse trying to do as you ask. I always look for "the try" to please you and be present for you.
I think everyone could benefit learning when to quit worrying about the score and when to reward the horse for being present.
