Dog days of Summer: July 3 to August 11
This year we got the heat in spades. Hope everyone is staying safe and cool in this heat.

Here is a puppy transformation to brighten your weekend.

Heads up! It’s hot out there, baby 🐶

Is it too hot to walk the dog? Check the pavement! When the air temperature hits 90°F, blacktop or concrete can skyrocket over 125°F—hot enough to cause severe burns to your pet's paws in seconds.

Walk your furry friends early in the morning or late in the evening.

Stick to the grass when possible.

Follow the 7-Second Rule: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them!

Beware

Beware

During the hottest months of the year, we need to be aware of the possibility of blue-green algae in lakes, ponds and streams. Blue-green algae can be toxic and dogs who love water are particularly at risk. If your dog does go into water with heavy algae growth, hose it off right away, before it has a chance to lick itself clean. Removing the algae before the dog can ingest any of it can prevent sickness. The primary signs of dogs ingesting toxic blue-green algae is gastrointestinal upset. This can be followed by liver injury. In addition, the algae may release toxins that lead to respiratory paralysis and seizures. If you believe your dog has been exposed to blue-green algae, immediate treatment of symptoms is necessary. Horses and other livestock are also susceptible to blue-green algae toxicity.
