🐹❤️ Oakhurst Porchfest 2026 – Until Next Year! ❤️🐹

We were so excited to be part of this year's Oakhurst Porchfest! Our Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue team was looking forward to setting up our tent behind The Imperial, meeting new friends, sharing our love for guinea pigs, and enjoying a wonderful day with our amazing community! 🎶🐹🎉

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans! 🌧️⛈️

With DeKalb County and the City of Decatur declaring a State of Emergency ahead of the approaching storm, the organizers of Oakhurst Porchfest have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel this year's event.

While we're certainly disappointed, the safety of our community, volunteers, performers, and everyone involved must always come first! ❤️

We want to send a HUGE thank-you to our incredible OGPR volunteers who were ready to give their time and energy to make our participation possible! We are so grateful for everything you do, not just for special events like this, but for our little piggies every single day! 🐹💕

We also want to thank the Oakhurst Porchfest organizers and all the volunteers who worked so hard to put together what would have been another amazing community celebration.

We'll miss seeing everyone this weekend, but there's always 2027! 🎶🐹

In the meantime, please take the approaching storm seriously, stay safe, look out for your neighbors, and don't forget to make sure your furry family members are safe and secure too! ❤️

We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! 💕 Things have been pretty busy around here, and we are finally catching up on some AMAZING adoption updates from September! We also have some wonderful stories of new beginnings to share. 🐹❤️

First up is little Alexander, who successfully bonded with his new buddy, Bubbles, on September 13th! 🎉

Alexander was found outside at a local apartment complex, but thankfully he was in good shape and ready for a fresh start. Bubbles, an older boy who had recently lost his buddy, was looking for a new best friend. It didn't take long for these two to hit it off! 🥰

We are so happy to see Alexander and Bubbles starting their new life together!

Next up was the adoption of Astro and Zepher on September 20th! 💙

These boys were part of the large LaGrange intake where three tubs containing 27 guinea pigs were left at LaGrange Animal Control. Thankfully, we were able to bring everyone into rescue, get them on a healthy diet, provide the care they needed, and get them ready for adoption.

Now Astro and Zepher are off to a much brighter future together! We couldn't be happier for these two handsome boys! 🐹🐹❤️

And last but certainly not least, we have Eloise and Snickerdoodle! 💕

Eloise was surrendered to a local shelter while pregnant and gave birth to two beautiful pups, including her daughter, Snickerdoodle. Snickerdoodle had recently lost her buddy and was ready for a new friend, so we were thrilled when the bonding went so well! 🥰🐹🐹

Every adoption is a new beginning, and we are so incredibly happy for all of these piggies and their families!

Here's to new friendships, happy homes, and MUCH better days ahead for all the piggies! 🐹❤️🏡

This year is especially meaningful because Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue has been based right here in Oakhurst for 11 YEARS! 🎉

It’s hard to believe how quickly the years have gone. What started right here in our community has grown into Georgia’s only licensed guinea pig rescue, and we’re approaching an incredible milestone: almost 1,500 guinea pigs helped! 🐹❤️

That’s nearly 1,500 little lives given a safe place, the care they needed, and a second chance at a loving home.

Oakhurst has been such an important part of our story, and we’re incredibly grateful to call this community home. ❤️

Welcome, Chester and Charlie! 🐹🐹🎉💙💙

We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! It has been a very busy couple of weeks here at the rescue, but we have some happy news to share!

Two weeks ago, we were contacted by Fulton County Lifeline Animal Project about five piggies who had been surrendered. We picked them up and will be sharing their story soon. Then, last Sunday, we received another message from Fulton County Lifeline about two guinea pigs who had been dumped in a park.

We welcomed them into the rescue a couple of days ago, and we would like to introduce Chester and Charlie! 🐹💙

We estimate these handsome boys are a little over two years old, and we are very happy to report that they appear to be healthy. Even better, they are completely bonded and incredibly friendly!

When working in rescue, it is always best not to speculate about how or why an animal ended up in a difficult situation. But it is hard not to wonder about these two. They are clearly wonderful, well-socialized boys, and it is especially sad to think that someone who once cared for them ultimately left them in a park.

There are always safe options for surrendering a guinea pig, including contacting a local animal shelter or rescue. We are just incredibly grateful that Chester and Charlie were found and that they are safe with us now. ❤️

If you and your family have been looking for an older, bonded pair, these two boys are truly amazing! They have so much love to give and are ready to find their forever home together. 🏡🐹🐹

Happy Labor Day 2026! 💙🐹🎉🎉

We hope everyone is enjoying Labor Day and taking a well-deserved break to spend time with family and friends! ❤️

We’ve been busy working with Fulton County Lifeline Animal Services over the weekend on two intakes involving multiple guinea pigs. We’re still working on getting everyone safely into rescue, and we may need a couple of new foster families in the next few weeks to help give these little ones the care they need.

This year has really been a busy one. It seems like we’ve had so many intakes and dumps, but with all of your incredible help and support, we’ve been able to answer the call whenever guinea pigs need us.

We are so incredibly grateful for every foster family, volunteer, adopter, donor, and supporter who makes it possible for OGPR to keep helping these little lives. We truly couldn’t do it without you! 🐹❤️

Thank you for being part of the OGPR family and for always helping us be there when we’re needed.

ONE SMALL ACT CAN CHANGE A LIFE ❤️🐹

From the outside, people often see the happy part of animal rescue.
They see the adoption pictures, the smiling families, and the guinea pigs going home. What they don't always see are the guinea pigs abandoned outside, the sick ones needing medical care, or the lonely ones who have lost their lifelong companions.

For our rescue team, the reality can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are always more guinea pigs needing help, more medical cases, more foster homes needed, and more families waiting for the right companion. The list never seems to end.

We know we can't save them all. But rescue has never been about saving them all. It's about helping the ones we can.

Beau, a beautiful long haired boy, had been dumped outside and left to fend for himself. Despite what he had been through, he was incredibly friendly and trusting.
Around the same time, OGPR alumni Odie had recently lost his buddy and was very lonely.

We introduced them, and their bonding session went beautifully. Now, Odie and Beau are living a wonderful life together.

One guinea pig had lost his best friend. One had been abandoned outside.
Somehow, their paths crossed.

And that is what rescue can do.

One act of kindness can change a life. But kindness has a way of spreading. One person decides to foster. Another volunteers. Someone else donates. A family chooses adoption. Someone shares a rescue story and reaches someone who had never considered helping before.

One small act becomes another, and another. Before long, more people are helping more lives.

We may never save every guinea pig who needs us, but together, we can keep making a difference, one small life at a time.

A special thank you to Odie and Beau's new family for trusting Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue and opening your hearts and home to these two boys. We are so grateful you chose to give them a loving home and the chance to begin this new chapter together as seen in the photos and video your shared. ❤️

Your decision didn't just change two lives. It became part of the ripple that helps our rescue keep going.

Because for Odie and Beau, one small act made all the difference. 🐹❤️

We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! We are so happy to share that last Sunday was an AMAZING adoption day for Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue, with 10 piggies heading off to their forever homes! ❤️🐹

It was truly an all-hands-on-deck day, and we cannot say enough about our incredible team. A huge thank you to our amazing Adoption Coordinator, Kerith, along with our Foster Coordinators Catalina, Erin, and Laura, for making everything run so smoothly. With so many families and piggies to coordinate, it was a perfect example of the dedication our OGPR team gives to every guinea pig who comes into our care!

First up was OGPR alumnus Odie, who had recently lost his buddy and was feeling very lonely. We paired him with Beau, a sweet and incredibly friendly long-haired boy who was rescued after being dumped outside. Their bonding session went beautifully, and these two are now enjoying life together!

Next, the adorable trio of Jasmine, Nimbus, and little Nim found their forever home! Jasmine came to us from Cobb Animal Services, while Nimbus arrived very pregnant from DeKalb County LifeLine. She soon gave birth to the cutest little nugget, Nim! After a rough start, this sweet family has so many wonderful days ahead.

Baby sisters Diana and Nova, from our LaGrange intake where guinea pigs were abandoned in bins outside the Lagrange animal services building, also found their forever family. We are so thrilled for these sweet girls!

The adorable pair Twitch and Bear were next. Bear was surrendered to a local shelter, while Twitch was born here at OGPR. And finally, Harmony and Enya headed home together! Harmony was found dumped outside a local apartment complex, and little Enya was born in our rescue.

Days like this are truly incredible. They are only possible because of our dedicated volunteers and foster families, and because wonderful adopters open their hearts and homes to these deserving little lives.💙💙🐹🎉🐹
