ONE SMALL ACT CAN CHANGE A LIFE โค๏ธ๐Ÿน

From the outside, people often see the happy part of animal rescue.
They see the adoption pictures, the smiling families, and the guinea pigs going home. What they don't always see are the guinea pigs abandoned outside, the sick ones needing medical care, or the lonely ones who have lost their lifelong companions.

For our rescue team, the reality can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are always more guinea pigs needing help, more medical cases, more foster homes needed, and more families waiting for the right companion. The list never seems to end.

We know we can't save them all. But rescue has never been about saving them all. It's about helping the ones we can.

Beau, a beautiful long haired boy, had been dumped outside and left to fend for himself. Despite what he had been through, he was incredibly friendly and trusting.
Around the same time, OGPR alumni Odie had recently lost his buddy and was very lonely.

We introduced them, and their bonding session went beautifully. Now, Odie and Beau are living a wonderful life together.

One guinea pig had lost his best friend. One had been abandoned outside.
Somehow, their paths crossed.

And that is what rescue can do.

One act of kindness can change a life. But kindness has a way of spreading. One person decides to foster. Another volunteers. Someone else donates. A family chooses adoption. Someone shares a rescue story and reaches someone who had never considered helping before.

One small act becomes another, and another. Before long, more people are helping more lives.

We may never save every guinea pig who needs us, but together, we can keep making a difference, one small life at a time.

A special thank you to Odie and Beau's new family for trusting Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue and opening your hearts and home to these two boys. We are so grateful you chose to give them a loving home and the chance to begin this new chapter together as seen in the photos and video your shared. โค๏ธ

Your decision didn't just change two lives. It became part of the ripple that helps our rescue keep going.

Because for Odie and Beau, one small act made all the difference. ๐Ÿนโค๏ธ

We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! We are so happy to share that last Sunday was an AMAZING adoption day for Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue, with 10 piggies heading off to their forever homes! โค๏ธ๐Ÿน

It was truly an all-hands-on-deck day, and we cannot say enough about our incredible team. A huge thank you to our amazing Adoption Coordinator, Kerith, along with our Foster Coordinators Catalina, Erin, and Laura, for making everything run so smoothly. With so many families and piggies to coordinate, it was a perfect example of the dedication our OGPR team gives to every guinea pig who comes into our care!

First up was OGPR alumnus Odie, who had recently lost his buddy and was feeling very lonely. We paired him with Beau, a sweet and incredibly friendly long-haired boy who was rescued after being dumped outside. Their bonding session went beautifully, and these two are now enjoying life together!

Next, the adorable trio of Jasmine, Nimbus, and little Nim found their forever home! Jasmine came to us from Cobb Animal Services, while Nimbus arrived very pregnant from DeKalb County LifeLine. She soon gave birth to the cutest little nugget, Nim! After a rough start, this sweet family has so many wonderful days ahead.

Baby sisters Diana and Nova, from our LaGrange intake where guinea pigs were abandoned in bins outside the Lagrange animal services building, also found their forever family. We are so thrilled for these sweet girls!

The adorable pair Twitch and Bear were next. Bear was surrendered to a local shelter, while Twitch was born here at OGPR. And finally, Harmony and Enya headed home together! Harmony was found dumped outside a local apartment complex, and little Enya was born in our rescue.

Days like this are truly incredible. They are only possible because of our dedicated volunteers and foster families, and because wonderful adopters open their hearts and homes to these deserving little lives.๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿน๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿน

We hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! ๐Ÿนโค๏ธ๐Ÿน

We are so happy to share that last weekendโ€™s adoption day was truly amazing. It was the perfect example of just how far the OGPR team will go for every piggy who comes through our doors, and how grateful we are for the families who believe in them. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’•

First up were Lightning and Smudge, two adorable little boys born at OGPR this spring after their moms were surrendered to a local county shelter. Their new forever family drove three hours from northern Alabama to bring these boys home!

We cannot express how grateful we are for a family willing to travel that far to give these little guys the loving, happy lives they deserve. โค๏ธ

Next were Dove and Checkers, and this adoption was especially meaningful because it represents everything we hope OGPR can do for a piggy in need.

You may remember Dove. Exactly one year ago, he was found during a rainstorm, alone in a cardboard box. He was severely underweight and appeared to have been attacked. Our team syringe fed him for weeks to give him the strength he needed.

Dove was taken to UGA for a CT scan, where they discovered his jaw was dislocated and there was a strange mass on his liver. After a tooth trim and continued supportive care, we kept working to make sure Dove was eating and gaining strength.

Then came incredible news at his follow up CT: his jaw had relocated, and the mass on his liver was gone! The veterinary team suspected he may have been bitten by a cat, puncturing his liver, and that the antibiotics helped resolve the infection.

Now, one year after being found in that cardboard box, Dove is living his best life with his new best friend Checkers and their forever family. โค๏ธ

Stories like these are why OGPR exists.

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and foster families for everything you do, and thank you to our adopting families for opening your hearts and homes. We are so grateful for each of you! โค๏ธ๐Ÿน

Every mile traveled. Every syringe feeding. Every vet visit. Every moment of worry. It is all worth it.๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™

Last Sundayโ€™s adoption day reminded us why Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue exists and how incredible our volunteers and families truly are.

What stood out wasnโ€™t just the adoptions. It was watching everyone come together to give these little lives a chance at happiness.

Our foster coordinators welcomed two families interested in fostering, another foster family came to pick up a pair of piggies, and volunteers helped families bond lonely piggies with OGPR piggies looking for homes.

Raphael was adopted from OGPR years ago, but recently lost his buddy. His family came back because they knew he shouldnโ€™t be alone. After careful introductions, Raphael bonded with little Aladdin. โค๏ธ

We are so proud that OGPR families know they can always come back when they need to add to their family, whether a piggie has lost a companion or they simply want to welcome two new piggies into their herd. We are always here to help find the right match.

We also met Maple, a senior lady who recently lost her companion. We were thrilled when she successfully bonded with Teagan. Now Maple wonโ€™t have to face her days alone. ๐Ÿฅฐ

People sometimes ask, โ€œWhy would a guinea pig rescue even exist?โ€

Spend a Sunday with OGPR.

Watch a family meet and adopt a pair of piggies in need of a home. Watch a volunteer guide a bonding session. Watch someone open their home to foster. Watch the joy when a lonely piggie finds a companion.

Then youโ€™ll understand.

Because these little guys matter enormously. โค๏ธ

Every guinea pig deserves companionship, love, proper care, and a chance at their best life. None of this happens without our amazing volunteers and the families who open their hearts and homes.

To every volunteer and every family who adopts, fosters, returns when they need help, or simply gives a little life a chance: thank you. We are incredibly grateful for you.

They may be little, but the love they inspire is anything but little. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’š

This is OGPR. This is why guinea pig rescue matters. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐ŸŽ‰ Happy Guinea Pig Appreciation Day! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿน๐Ÿน

Today, we are celebrating the incredible little animals that have stolen our hearts and changed our lives. Guinea pigs may be small, but the love, joy, and laughter they bring into our homes is truly immeasurable. โค๏ธ

Helping us celebrate today are two very special ladies from our Sanctuary Program, Momo and Puffin. These sweet girls remind us every day just how extraordinary guinea pigs are. Their gentle personalities, adorable wheeks, curious little noses, and loving spirits brighten every day at Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue.

Not every guinea pig's journey ends with adoption. Some become cherished sanctuary residents because of age or medical needs, where they spend the rest of their lives surrounded by love, comfort, and exceptional care. Momo and Puffin are wonderful ambassadors for all of our sanctuary piggies and a beautiful reminder that every guinea pig deserves a safe and loving home.

Today we celebrate every guinea pig, those enjoying life with their forever families, those patiently waiting to be adopted, and those living their golden years in our sanctuary.

Thank you to everyone who has adopted, fostered, volunteered, donated, or supported our mission. Because of you, we are able to give these amazing little animals the care and love they deserve.

Happy Guinea Pig Appreciation Day from all of us at Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue! Please share a photo of your guinea pigs in the comments. We would love to celebrate them with you! ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™

Welcome to the Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue Podcast. In this special episode, we share the remarkable story of Nutmeg, a tiny guinea pig whose courage, resilience, and gentle spirit touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her journey inspired our rescue, an extraordinary team of veterinarians, and the exploration of an innovative treatment that may one day help animals facing cancer.

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Mayer at the University of Georgia. His compassion, dedication, and willingness to explore new possibilities gave Nutmeg every chance to fight and helped create a legacy that may benefit countless animals in the future. We can never thank him enough for believing in Nutmeg and for the incredible care he provided throughout her journey.

While Nutmeg's time with us was far too short, her legacy continues to offer hope, advance veterinary medicine, and remind us that even the smallest lives can leave the greatest mark.

We know...two Fourth of July posts in one day! ๐Ÿ˜„ We just couldn't let such a special holiday pass without celebrating another reason to smile...our wonderful adoptions from last weekend!

First up is Bandit, a sweet 5-year-old girl who recently lost her longtime companion. We were so happy to help her find a wonderful new best friend in Kahlua! Watching Bandit begin this new chapter with her new buddy is exactly what rescue is all about.

Next are the beautiful Aurora and Venus. These lovely girls were among the guinea pigs rescued from the heartbreaking LaGrange dump case, where 28 piggies were abandoned and left in just three plastic storage bins. Despite everything they endured, these girls never stopped trusting people. Today, they have the happy ending they always deserved. We are incredibly grateful to their wonderful new family for opening their hearts and giving Aurora and Venus the loving forever home they deserve.

Every adoption reminds us that hope is always possible and that together we can change lives, one pair of guinea pigs at a time.

Thank you to our amazing adopters, foster families, volunteers, and supporters who make stories like these possible. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐ŸŽ‰

We hope everyone has a safe, happy, and wonderful Fourth of July! โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

Today, as we celebrate 250 years of freedom, hope, and community, all of us at Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue are filled with gratitude.

We are incredibly thankful for our amazing adoption and foster coordinators whose tireless dedication keeps our rescue running every day. Your compassion, countless hours, and unwavering commitment make second chances possible for so many guinea pigs. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™

To our extraordinary foster families, thank you for opening your homes and hearts. Because of you, we are able to rescue guinea pigs who have been abandoned, neglected, or surrendered and give them the care, love, and safety they deserve while they wait for their forever homes. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™

A very special thank you goes to Dr. Ahearn and the incredible team at Animal Hospital of Sandy Springs. Your exceptional veterinary care, compassion, and partnership have saved countless lives, and we are forever grateful for everything you do for our little patients. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™

To every family who has chosen to adopt, thank you for believing in our rescue. By welcoming a bonded pair of guinea pigs into your home, you are giving them a loving forever family while making room for us to save another pair in need.

๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’™ Happy Father's Day from Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿน

What a wonderful Father's Day adoption event! Today, six piggies found their forever homes, and we couldn't be happier.

First up were Cheese and Roni, who were abandoned at a local apartment complex and left wondering what their future would hold. Today, they left with an incredible family ready to give them all the love, care, and security they deserve.

Next were Ranger and Boone, two of the eight guinea pigs who were heartbreakingly left in a box in the woods. These sweet boys have been through so much, yet they have remained gentle, trusting, and full of personality. We are beyond thrilled that they have finally found their perfect forever home.

And last but certainly not least, little Dewdrop and Drizzle found their family today! Born at the Cobb County shelter on April 26, 2026, these tiny sisters were part of the group of 13 guinea pigs we welcomed from Cobb County. Their lives may have started with uncertainty, but today they begin a new chapter filled with love and happiness.

To each of the families who chose adoption today, thank you. By opening your hearts and homes to these little ones, you are giving them the second chance they deserve. There is no greater gift than a loving forever home.

A huge thank you also goes out to our amazing Adoption Coordinator, Kerith, and our wonderful Foster Coordinators, Erin and Catalina, for organizing, scheduling, and making today's adoptions possible. To all of our incredible foster families who open their homes, provide daily care, and help these piggies heal and thrive, you are the heart of this rescue. We simply could not do this without you.

Today was a reminder of why we do what we do. Six piggies, six happy endings, and six bright futures ahead.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads and father figures out there, and congratulations to our newest adoptive families! โค๏ธ๐Ÿน๐Ÿก๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐Ÿน๐Ÿน

๐Ÿน๐Ÿ’š FOSTERS URGENTLY NEEDED ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿน

Yesterday, we were contacted about 8 guinea pigs that had been abandoned, and Oakhurst Guinea Pig Rescue is currently working to bring them into our care. The challenge is that we are completely out of space.

This has been one of the most difficult years in our rescue's history. We have already taken in 28 dumped guinea pigs from LaGrange, 13 guinea pigs from Cobb County, and welcomed 13 babies from those rescues. We recently took in 3 more guinea pigs from DeKalb County, and at least one appears to be pregnant. All of this is in addition to our normal intake and return cases.

If you have ever considered fostering, now is a wonderful time to help. Summer is a great time for fostering, and it can even be an opportunity to foster-to-adopt if you fall in love with your temporary guests.

OGPR provides the cage, bedding, hay, pellets, and veterinary care. We simply ask foster families, if they are able, to help provide fresh vegetables for their foster piggies.

We can also provide community service hours for students looking for a meaningful way to give back this summer.

Every foster home allows us to save more lives. If you have room in your heart and home, please reach out today.

If you canโ€™t foster, please consider sharing this post to help us reach more people. A single share could connect us to the foster home these guinea pigs are desperately waiting for.

Thank you to our amazing supporters for standing with us through this incredibly busy year. We couldnโ€™t do it without you. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿน
