Legacy Humane Society We are a 501c3 rescue group in the N. Texas area, committed to helping dogs find loving homes. To provide medical treatment for all animals in our care.

Our Purpose:
To rescue adoptable dogs and puppies from animal shelters and animal control facilities. To rescue dogs and puppies from abusive and neglectful situations, including puppy mills and "backyard breeders". To help educate the public on proper animal care and promote spaying and neutering of all pets. To provide foster homes for all animals in our care. To place rescued animals in permanent, loving homes.

As families settle into new routines this back to school season, Calista is hoping for a fresh start of her own. 📚🐾 Back to School Means a New Routine for Your Pets, Too! 🐾📚

As the school year begins, the house suddenly becomes much quieter. If you adopted a new pet over the summer, they may be wondering where everyone went!

Just like children, pets need time to adjust to changes in their daily routine. The good news? A little preparation and consistency can help make the transition smooth and stress free.

Here are a few tips to help your pet adjust:

🐶 Ease into the new schedule. Start shifting feeding times, potty breaks, walks, and bedtime a few days before school starts.

🏡 Practice being alone. Leave your pet for short periods to help build confidence before everyone is away all day.

🧩 Keep their minds busy. Puzzle toys, safe chew toys, scratching posts, and enrichment activities can help prevent boredom.

🎾 Exercise before you leave. A walk or play session helps burn energy and encourages your pet to rest while you're away.

🛏️ Create a cozy space. Make sure they have a quiet, comfortable area with fresh water and a few favorite toys.

👀 Watch for signs of stress. Accidents in the house, changes in appetite, excessive barking or meowing, destructive behavior, or pacing may mean your pet needs a little extra time and reassurance.

A former service dog, Abby is ready for her next chapter with a family to call her own. This sweet 6 year old Queensland Heeler is everything you could hope for in a companion. She is calm, affectionate, and happiest when she's right by your side.

Abby is house trained, crate trained, and wonderful with children, cats, and other dogs. She loves relaxing on the couch, following her people from room to room, and entertaining herself with her favorite tennis ball. Jag was adopted as a puppy and spent years with the family he loved. Sadly, after a new baby joined the household, he struggled with the change and is now looking for a fresh start. Through it all, Jag has remained the happy, intelligent, adventure loving dog he's always been.

At 4 years old, Jag is the perfect companion for an active family.
