Stress isn’t always bad. Hesitation doesn’t always mean fear. And discomfort doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong.

Sometimes, dogs need to work through a little pressure, process something unfamiliar, or take a second to figure things out. That doesn’t mean they’re scared, traumatized, or being forced into something they can’t handle.

Our job is to know the difference.

There’s a BIG difference between a dog who is genuinely struggling and a dog who is simply working through something new. If we treat every moment of hesitation as fear and every ounce of stress as something to avoid, we risk teaching our dogs that they should never have to navigate anything uncomfortable.

The goal isn’t to eliminate every bit of stress from your dog’s life. That’s not realistic, and it’s not doing them any favors.

The goal is to build dogs who can think, adapt, recover, and move forward when things aren’t perfectly comfortable.

Support your dog when they need it. Advocate for them when they need it. But don’t confuse every moment of discomfort with a dog who needs to be rescued from the situation.

It’s been almost 15 years since we left, and now we’re headed back to New York!

What does this change for you?
Not much at all!

In fact, it will offer me more flexibility to schedule follow up lessons with my Connecticut clients, host pack walks in both Connecticut AND New York, AND I will be able to offer travel (drop offs and pick ups) for new board and train clients and regular boarding clients.

I have been so incredibly lucky over the last seven years of owning my own business to service clients from New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Massachusetts…and that’s still the plan!

The only thing that’s REALLY changing is my home base.

I am excited to collab with some of my favorite Hudson valley businesses (Pawfect Pupps Pet Care Service Inc I’m looking at you) and get back to the place where most of you met me/heard of me in the first place.

I have ONE last minute end of October spot, and MAYBE* one December spot left.

Otherwise, let’s get your dogs on the schedule for 2027!!

Our first well bred, purebred dog. The dog that fulfilled a childhood dream of a border collie. The dog that knew all of the tricks, who got her joy from harassing the other dogs and diving head first into a dock diving pool to eat the water. The dog who’s greatest love was her dad, going for truck rides, dragging your arm (or foot) in for pets, and just being involved.

Dory, you were rotten in so many ways but you were a great dog in all of the ways that count. We will miss you dearly, little fish.
