URGENT foster or foster-to-adopt home needed for bonded brothers Jim & Max anywhere in NYC/NJ/LI areas (currently located in LI) 💔
Today we were contacted by Jim and Max’s family about returning the boys back to the rescue. One of their daughters has become very sick since the fall, and they shared that they no longer have the time to properly care for them.
Jim and Max were adopted from us last year as tiny kittens, and situations like this are absolutely heartbreaking for us. Some days truly make us want to stop doing adoptions altogether and focus only on TNR. Finding foster homes for adult cats is already incredibly difficult, but finding placement for bonded 1-year-old brothers feels almost impossible right now.
Our rescue is beyond overwhelmed. We are currently caring for friendly and feral mothers with litters, adult cats ranging from 1 to 15 years old, and every single foster home is completely full. For the first time ever, we had to close intakes in May because the abandonment crisis on Staten Island has become that severe.
Despite everything, we are trying our best to keep Jim and Max safe and together.
Here is what their family shared about the boys:
“Personality wise, Max and Jim have turned out to be very social, curious, and mischievous cats. They do climb a lot and tend to knock a few things over, but they adjust after some firm ‘No’s.’ They also don’t mind being handled much, since our daughters made sure to desensitize them from a young age.
Max is especially cuddly, although he is standoffish at first. He’s very vocal and absolutely loves attention and cuddles. He still hisses initially with new people (he did as a kitten too), but once he opens up, he is incredibly loving. He rubs all over the girls and lays on top of them constantly. Max also loves belly scratches — but only when he decides it’s time. He can be a little skittish about being picked up, but when held close to your chest in a deep hug, he melts.
Jim is also very cuddly and friendly. He’s slightly less demanding of attention than Max, but still loves pets and affection on his own terms. He lets Max boss him around and mostly follows his brother’s lead. Jim doesn’t mind being picked up and loves being held like a baby or draped over shoulders.
Both boys would benefit most from staying together. They have grown up side by side and truly rely on each other for companionship. Every single day they are playing, wrestling, and cuddling together. They are still young and occasionally mischievous, but they are already starting to calm down with age.”
Please help us find these boys a foster or forever home together. They deserve stability, love, and a family that will not give up on them. If you can foster, foster-to-adopt, or share their story, please reach out immediately.
P. S. Jim and Max are 1 yo brothers, neutered, UTD on shots, FIV/FeLV negative, microchipped
