3rd entry and we are gaining some confidence. Running in the 3D with 180+ tough bunch. This little girl is showing she can be pretty gritty when she puts it together.

Training horses has always been like a puzzle to me. Not every horse is the same and you have to figure out the right pieces to fit in order to put it all together.

My end goal when working with colts is to get them soft throughout their body, have accountability with confidence, and enjoy what they’re doing.

I like being able to keep my hands low and steady. While maybe a bump here or a bump there, but for the most part I like to let them be accountable for their moves. This way I can sit quietly and let them work. As speed is added there is less control. This is why it’s important to me to get them soft in the face and confident in their ability so I don’t have to pull and slow down to get what is needed. Everyone has heard the saying: smooth is fast. Be smooth with your hands and seat. Teach them to run on while you’re quiet but also teach them to come back to you when needed. Even if it’s just a bump to get what you need.

I start majority of my colts with a lummus. It makes a world of difference when teaching them to flex and be soft.
