Back Street Kittens was founded by Teresa Kern in Duluth, Georgia in Feb. 2019. We are a very small rescue that did what we could to help feral kittens and their moms. Since we started, we have saved about 200 kittens/cats. We have made the deci

sion to no longer do any intake. We are becoming a sanctuary so the remaining BSK's will have a safe place to live out their life. If you have adopted from us and can no longer care for the cat, they need to be returned to us per the adoption contract. We will continue to help with community TNR by lending out traps and giving instruction on how to use them.

This pretty girl is Buffy. She came to me as a feral young kitten with her brother Jody. Jody and I had an immediate connection and he was a sweet boy. Unfortunately, he got sick in January 2025 and we lost him. Buffy never warmed up to me. She avoided me whenever possible. Several months ago, she started letting me pet her when I gave her a bowl of wet food. Then I noticed that she was hanging out in the top of a cat tree in my bedroom so I started approaching her everyday and petting her. She allowed it but her ears were pulled back and she flinched every time I touched her. Now she has moved to the living room and is in this spot every afternoon when I scoop litter boxes. I always make a point to pet her and talk to her after I scoop the box closest to the tree. Lately, her ears haven't been pulled back as far and she hasn't been flinching as bad. This afternoon, she stayed relaxed as I pet her and.......she purred!!!!! I have to admit, I was so happy, I cried. It has taken almost 5 years for her to start trusting me. We still have work to do but this is huge.

Hi, my name is Iris. I am one of the oldest BSK cats. I was born in 2019 and came into rescue when I was about 5 weeks old. My sister got adopted because she was a cute Siamese looking kitten but since I was all black, nobody wanted me. That is okay, I have a good life here. The human works hard to make sure we all have what we need and makes our lives as comfortable as possible. Lately, I have noticed that she always seems tired and I worry about her. What she really needs is a volunteer or two that would be willing to help out with cleaning and taking care of us. If you live in Dacula or close, please complete a volunteer application. I will ask her to put the link below. It would also be good for all of us cats to meet some new people. You never know when you might meet your soulmate!

Hi everyone, it is me Tippy. The human took this picture because she said I was just too adorable! She is always right.
While the human was getting our evening meal ready last night, I noticed that the food cupboard is pretty empty. The human counted cans and said we had 9 days left. I don't really know how long that is but it doesn't sound like much. Would you please help us fill the cabinet? I don't know about you but I live to eat. The human calls me the kitty disposal because once I finish my bowl of food, I always go finish everyone else's.

Hi, it's Tippy again. We met a couple of months ago when I asked for your help to fill our Friskies cabinet. I am back to ask for your help again. The cabinet is getting low and mom is worried. You were very generous last time and I am hoping that you will help us out again.
Not only do I monitor the cabinet but I also make sure no food goes to waste!
