Let’s clear this up with real facts, not fudging feelings.
Dogs did not start as pure breeds
All domestic dogs came from wolves. Early humans bred dogs for jobs, not looks—hunting, guarding, herding, tracking. Every dog line started as mixed genetics.
“Purebred” only exists because of selective breeding
A purebred is created when humans repeatedly breed dogs with the same traits and then CLOSE the gene pool. That’s it. No magic. No original purity.
Most modern breeds are very young
The majority of recognized dog breeds are less than 200 years old. That’s a blink in evolutionary time. They were standardized by kennel clubs, not nature.
Poodles are NOT ancient pure dogs
Poodles came from crosses of water dogs, retrievers, and hunting dogs in Europe. Their coat and intelligence were selected traits. Over time, breeding was tightened and labeled “pure.”
Designer dogs prove the point
Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, Cavapoos, etc. aren’t new science—they’re just early-stage breeds. Give them 50–100 years of closed breeding and they’ll be called “purebred” too.
Genetics don’t care about labels
DNA doesn’t recognize “AKC,” “pure,” or “designer.” It only recognizes dominant and recessive traits passed down through selection.
Closed gene pools = health tradeoffs
When humans stop outcrossing, genetic diversity drops. That’s why many “purebred” dogs have breed-specific health issues.
BOTTOM LINE
Every dog started as a mix.
Purebreds are created, not born.
Poodles are refined crosses, not original dogs.
Time + selective breeding = a “purebred” label.
Nature made dogs.
Humans organized them. We used crossbreeding, line breeding, inbreeding and health testing. You folks don't breed for performance. You never started a breed. I been designing fogs for over 40 years. Make it make sense or be quiet.
