Meet Bella! 🐾

At 7 years old, this sweet Bichon had spent years practicing some habits that her family was ready to change. Walks often felt more like a tug-of-war, as Bella pulled on the leash and reacted to every dog she saw by barking and lunging. When Nova arrived for her puppy board and train, her family was exhausted and wondering if they had accidentally adopted a tiny land shark instead of a puppy. 🦈

At just 4 months old, Nova had earned herself quite the reputation. She was teething hard, biting everyone she could get her mouth on, pulling like a freight train on the leash, bouncing off the walls with endless puppy energy, and potty training was anything but consistent. In fact, she seemed to have decided that the house was a perfectly acceptable place to leave surprise presents. 💩

Sadie had a BIG win on her GRADUATION DAY, and we couldn’t be more proud of her. 🐾🔥

Sadie is the kind of girl who doesn’t go looking for trouble… but if another dog wants to talk smack, she’s more than willing to answer back. 😅

So today, we decided to put her skills to the test.

We brought four sassy dogs we’ve trained extensively and can safely manage by turning their behavior on and off. These dogs know how to be neutral, but they also know how to throw some attitude when asked. The goal was to expose Sadie to realistic situations (like passing another reactive dog on a leashed walk) in a controlled environment and teach her that she doesn’t need to respond just because another dog has something to say.

And you know what?

Sadie absolutely crushed it. 💪

Not once did she react. Not when another dog barked. Not when one got mouthy. Not even when another dog tried to intimidate her. Instead of engaging, Sadie stayed focused, listened to her handler, and made the choice to remain neutral.

That’s what real progress looks like.

Training isn’t about creating a dog that never notices what’s happening around them. It’s about teaching them that they have another option besides reacting. Today, Sadie learned that she doesn’t have to accept every invitation to an argument.

If enthusiasm were a sport, Sadie would be an Olympic champion. 🐾😂

Sadie loves everyone, everything, and every activity she can possibly be involved in. While her happy-go-lucky personality is one of the things that makes her so lovable, it also means that impulse control is an important skill for her to learn.

Today we worked on the place command, and Sadie rose to the challenge! She successfully held place while her sister, Bleu, ran around nearby having the time of her life. As if that wasn’t difficult enough, we also tested her self-control by bringing out her absolute favorite thing in the world—her ball. 🎾

Sadie stayed on place while we played with the ball right in front of her, learning that she doesn’t have to chase every exciting thing she sees. The goal isn’t to take away her fun-loving personality—it’s to teach her how to control it when needed.

And before anyone worries, yes, Sadie absolutely earned her reward! After showing off her impressive self-control, she got plenty of time to play with her beloved ball. 💕

We’re so proud of this sweet girl and the progress she’s making. Learning to be calm when everything in her body says “LET ME JOIN THE PARTY!” is no easy task, but Sadie is proving she’s up for the challenge.

Sully was back for lesson number two, and he had a big day! 🐾

This week, Sully was introduced to the place command. Place is one of our favorite skills because it teaches a dog how to relax, settle, and remain in a designated spot until released. It builds impulse control, creates structure in the home, and gives owners a practical way to manage their dogs during meals, when guests come over, or anytime a little extra calm is needed.

We also started teaching Sully how to use potty bells! 🔔 Every time he needs to go outside, we want him to have a clear way to communicate that with his family. By teaching him to touch the bells before going out, we’re helping bridge the communication gap between dog and owner and making the potty-training process much more straightforward.

Sully caught on quickly and showed us that he’s eager to learn. It’s always fun watching dogs start to understand that training is a game they can win. With each lesson, he’s becoming more engaged, more responsive, and more confident.

We’re excited to continue building on these foundations and can’t wait to see what Sully accomplishes next! 🐶✨

Welcome to training, Sully! 🐾

Sully came to us struggling with a few common issues: pulling on the leash, counter surfing, unreliable commands, a lack of duration in his obedience, and little to no recall when called. Like many dogs, Sully knows some things—but knowing a command and reliably performing it in the real world are two very different things.

Our focus today was building engagement and helping Sully understand that listening isn’t optional. We began laying the foundation for clear communication, accountability, and consistency. Every great dog starts with strong fundamentals, and that’s exactly where we’re beginning.
