Did you know your dog's dew claws actually serve a purpose?

Dew claws are the small "thumb-like" claws located higher up on your dog's leg. While they may not touch the ground like the other nails, they help provide extra stability when running, turning quickly, climbing, and holding toys or treats. Some dogs even use them for added traction on uneven terrain.

Because dew claws don't make regular contact with the ground, they don't naturally wear down like other nails. This means they can become overgrown, snag on blankets, carpets, or furniture, and even curl into the skin if left untrimmed.
