Small mammals are popular pets, but they have very specific care needs. Guinea pigs need vitamin C in their diet. Chinchillas are sensitive to heat. Ferrets need annual distemper vaccines. Hedgehogs are prone to cancer and need regular checkups.

Great question — and the answer is almost always NO! The needles used in veterinary acupuncture are extremely thin (much thinner than injection needles), and most pets tolerate them very well. Many actually become drowsy and relaxed during treatment.
