While people enjoy fireworks lighting up the night sky, countless animals are left shaking in fear, desperately hiding from the deafening explosions. Now, Great Britain could take action to protect them from this frightening experience.
In 2026, the UK Government proposed stricter controls on the loudest fireworks, including restricting their use to professional displays. The proposals aim to reduce the harm caused to animals and communities, but they do not amount to a complete fireworks ban.
Every year, dogs and cats hide under furniture, tremble, or try to run away from the noise. Wild birds can also panic and take flight suddenly, putting themselves at risk as they escape the explosions.
For animals, fireworks are not a celebration. The sudden bangs and flashes can cause real fear and distress, especially for pets and wildlife that cannot understand what is happening around them.
Stronger fireworks restrictions could help make celebrations safer for animals. No animal should have to spend the night terrified just because humans want to celebrate.
