WE NEED ANOTHER VOLUNTEER FOSTERER *please share*
Do you love cats?
Do you have experience of caring for them at all ages, from kittenhood to old age?
Have you previously fostered cats, or do you have animal care qualifications?
Are you unfazed by cleaning stinky litter trays, or taking a poorly cat for regular vet visits?
We need you!
Our volunteer Amanda has (with the help of her mum Janice), as many of you know, worked tirelessly for years, hand-rearing kittens and caring for cats of all ages in her catpens.
But this year another of our wonderful long-term fosterers stepped back so we're looking for someone to ensure we can continue to take in cats who need us. It's hard when it all falls on Amanda.
If you are willing to take on one litter of kittens and their mum, once a year, in a spare room in your house, that would be a big help. The mum and kittens would be with you at least THREE months, until they were old enough to be adopted, and until we could find a home for mum too.
It would free up our pens for those months for others to come into care.
And it's a good way to check that fostering is actually something you want to do.
If you already know you want to foster in a more long-term, on-going way, that would also be fabulous.
(We don't take on ad-hoc emergency fosterers any more as we found that when we did contact someone to say "it's an emergency" they often weren't able to help us at that moment.)
We provide all food, litter, toys, bedding for your foster cats.
Here is the unvarnished truth ...
Please remember, if you are a fosterer the cats are your responsibility. Their welfare is up to you. It's no use to us if you decide you want to go away every other weekend for the entire summer. Sorry to be blunt, but it's just true.
If/when you do go away you will need to get cover for your foster-cats.
We are a tiny rescue and we simply don't have the resources or volunteer numbers to move cats around between foster homes. Even if we did, we definitely wouldn't stress them out by doing that.
And there are - of course - certain policies and procedures our charity follows, about standards of animal care and cleanliness. We'd need you to be aware of those and happy to follow them.
