Sunday night thoughts ❌
Monday night thoughts, I may have fallen asleep writing this the first time 😬
This last week I saw a post on another rescue with comments suggesting kittens should only be £15 or even free to 'get them out the door' suggesting the adoption fee was a money making scheme.(Same as our price as well)
It got me thinking how many other people think like this, how many rely on rescues run by volunteers reliant on fundraising to pick up the pieces.
So here is a little case study of Pricilla
We were asked by social services to help with a heavily pregnant cat as all kittens from a previous had died and the owner was coping well but would like to keep mum.
We agreed to help because first and formost we wanted to prevent suffering. Social services agreed to help with a very small proportion of the cost of mums cats spay.
So here's the costs
-Mum cat and kittens poorly, multiple vet visits (we eventually lost 3 out 4 kittens)
-Spays for mum and Priscilla (social services stopped replying and didn't contribute at all)
- chips and vaccinations
-flea and worm treatments
All this came to roughly £685 and we've not included all the food and supplements required
So even when Priscilla is rehomed the cost to the rescue is at LEAST £535
Maybe you're thinking this is a bad example, it can't be like this all the time?
It really is,
Sullivans litter after rehoming will cost at least £500 but possibly more (we would like them to go together and we do a discount for that)
Reggies litter has cost us £592
When we say no to a litter or any cat it's not just about space it's about how we will pay. We are emergency only at the moment and will be for the foreseeable future. Please help support our fundraising efforts every £1 is vital, every packet of food helps.
We've also had people wanting us to break into properties, moan because cats protection (who didn't help) promised we would, trap their cats (not borrow the trap but to do it for them, they were too busy!)
This list could go on, but it's a new week let's see what happens!❤️
