Itʼs a common misconception that hot cars are the main danger causing pets to overheat in summer. In reality, over-exertion during walks is the leading cause of heatstroke in dogs, making up an astonishing 74% of cases.

This risk is greater for dogs that are:
🔅Brachycephalic (flat faced)
🔅Overweight
🔅Elderly
🔅Have underlying heart or respiratory conditions.

Heatstroke is a veterinary emergency. Symptoms include:
🔅Heavy panting
🔅Excessive salivation
🔅Rapid heart rate
🔅Bright red gums and tongue
🔅Weakness, confusion or collapse

As we're all enjoying this weather our furry friends will not be enjoying this extreme heat. We need to do everything we can to keep them safe. It is unsafe to walk dogs during the day in the temperatures that we are currently experiencing.

Please make sure that your furry friends have access to fresh water and are able to take themselves to a cool place to escape the heat.
