Everybody, meet Luna! 🐶

Luna is a 13-year-old Siberian Husky who recently came to see us with a very large lump on her shoulder.

The lump had been growing reasonably quickly and had started to affect her mobility, so we made the decision to remove it. Luna has recovered really well following surgery, and it’s been lovely to see her getting back to her normal self.

She’s even started trying to jump into the car again — a sign that she’s feeling more comfortable and mobile! 🐾

*Important Healthcare Plan Update*

Dear valued clients,

We appreciate your continued support of our healthcare plans and want to update you on an upcoming change to plan pricing.

Our plans have remained at the same price since they launched nearly three years ago. Unfortunately, due to increasing costs, both in terms of products and the home delivery service, we now need to adjust our prices in line with inflation.

From 1st October, all plans will increase by £2 per month.

This change will apply from your individual renewal date. If you decide not to renew your plan, please contact the surgery before cancelling any direct debits.

All current benefits and features of the plan will remain exactly the same.

Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in our team.

Kind regards from the Team at The Berkshire Vet

🐾 FIRST AID KIT ESSENTIALS FOR DOG WALKS 🐾

We’ve had a few questions recently about what’s useful to have in a first aid kit for your dog, particularly when you’re out walking.

A few simple items can be really useful to have with you:

💧 Saline flush – ideal for gently flushing eyes or cleaning minor wounds.

🥾 A correctly sized dog boot – useful for protecting a paw or foot wound and helping to keep it clean on the walk home.

🩹 Bandage material – for a more comprehensive kit, bandaging can help protect wounds and apply pressure if there is bleeding.

🔎 Tweezers – handy for removing thorns, splinters or other debris from paws.

🕷️ Tick remover – a useful addition if you regularly walk in areas where ticks are present.

A first aid kit isn’t a substitute for veterinary attention where required, but having a few basic items to hand can make dealing with a minor injury much easier until you can get home or seek further advice.

If you’d rather not put a kit together yourself, we stock Charlie The Vet mini and full first aid kits at reception. They contain all of these useful essentials and are an easy option to keep in the car or take with you on walks. The mini kits are £19.99 and the full kits are £34.99.

Hopefully it will spend most of its time untouched — but it’s always worth being prepared 🐾

🐍 ADDER WARNING 🐍

Everybody meet Redford, Redford is a 10 month old Labrador who unfortunately crossed paths with an adder at Greenham common last week. The adder bit Redford’s foot which started to swell straight away, poor Redford was very distressed. His owner brought him to us immediately to administer prompt supportive treatment including anti-venom. His foot started to reduce in size within hours and he was back to his normal self by the following day!

Please take care when out walking during summer months, particularly around Greenham Common and Snelsmore as adders are often out basking 🐍

If you believe your pet has been bitten please seek veterinary attention as soon as possible as symptoms can progress rapidly.
