Acorns and conkers might be a tasty seasonal treat for squirrels, but unfortunately they’re not so friendly for our dogs.

If eaten, they can make your dog poorly, causing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, drooling, tummy pain and tiredness. In some cases, swallowing them whole can also cause a dangerous blockage.

With acorns and conkers scattered everywhere at this time of year, it’s worth keeping an extra eye on curious noses while you’re out and about.

A couple of simple ways to keep your dog safe:

🍂 Keep a close eye on them when walking in areas where acorns and conkers have fallen.
🍂 Try not to let them pick up or play with them and avoid using them for games of fetch.

If you think your dog may have eaten acorns or conkers, or they’re showing any signs of being unwell, please contact your vet for advice.

Enjoy those lovely autumn walks, just watch out for what’s hiding amongst the leaves!
