I tried everything with this pony, trying to find ''his thing''.

He wasn't keen on anything in the arena, showed no enthusiasm for jumping,

But you know what I missed when I was searching for ''his thing''? Where he truly thrived was staring me right in the face.

Every time a friend's kid wanted to ride a pony or meet one for the first time, I'd immediately call on this pony.

He'd stand quietly as they squealed and cooed, found their confidence to get closer, pick up the brush or get in the saddle. He would carefully plod down the lane as the held on nervously and every single time, they'd return up that lane smiling, waving, confident and bitten by the equestrian bug (huge apologies to their parents and their bank accounts).

Whilst he has never been insanely talented in a single discipline, or shown particular favour to any, he has grown into something far more special - a pony I can trust.

I know he will look after anyone I put around or on him, and whilst that isn't a unique characteristic in a pony, it is one I really readily overlooked because it wasn't what I was looking for.

I realise now that my blindness came from wanting him to be something, to fit a job, a niche or a calling, but horses don’t owe us that. They don’t need a speciality or a purpose beyond simply being themselves. That’s just us laying human ambition and emotion on their backs.

His “thing” was never a discipline. It was just who he is, and the funny thing is, that's what I've loved the most all along.

I had to share😂🤣😂

Here is our Scrumpy Jack, just been turned out in his field...
he is most freaked out by my attempts to cover an ambitious rabbit hole 🕳️🐰🐇 till I can get more rocks sorted to fill it (no rabbits were harmed in the filling of the hole as they have loads of other entrances & exits dotted around edges of field)... But I can't risk broken ankles.. horses or mine 😅

Anyway my horse is clearly unsure whether...

"Is this witch crafty hat tyre cone combo thing going to kill me ... Or can I eat it" 😂🤣😂🔺🛞🎃🥕🪏🪤

Thank you Amelia Radford for this video 🤣😍🤣
