PLEASE, if you have a stray cat coming into your garden/yard we don't mind you contacting us and we can hopefully come scan if cat is lost in the hope of reuniting with its owner. If injured we can usually help by taking to a vet. BUT we honestly can't come to every single cat that turns up in a garden, sometimes it's just that it's an outdoor cat and it's looking around for some food or another cat. We've literally been inundated this last couple of weeks with people who seem to think that if there's a cat in their garden I'm going to pop my pants over my trousers and swoop down and remove this pesky cat. Not sure where these folk think I can house all these cats. This week alone (that's since Saturday only) I have been asked to attend and remove SIX cats from gardens, take in TWELVE cats from people's homes that they can no longer look after, and trap a colony of 20 or more adults with kittens. Now some of these are local to us, but more and more requests lately are coming from as far north as Newcastle and Sunderland. We honestly can't cover those areas, we are swimming against the tide trying to cope with local ones.
The whole cat situation nationwide is horrific right now. Every rescue is under so much pressure and especially for the small rescues, like ourselves, we don't have that many volunteers so there is a limit to how many we can help.
Every single person can help in some way though, if they own a cat make sure it's neutered at six months old (or before if vet on board), microchipped (and registered), and please do spread the word to friends, family, workmates, etc just how important neutering is. Believe me when I say there will not come a point (which does worry some people) that there are no more kittens. There will always be more than enough :D
