Every year we treat multiple dogs with heatstroke. Today marks the start of very warm weather. Up until now it has been cool weather for this time of year, it will now be 24/25 degrees which is a 10-15 degree swing in temperature within a day or two, this is NOT enough time for acclimatisation. Please be careful, walk your dogs only in early morning and evening when it’s cooler. We can wear lighter clothes but dogs can’t. Dogs more likely to suffer from heatstroke are:

🐕 if they are overweight
🐕 flat faced breeds eg pugs, bulldogs
🐕 old dogs
🐕 animals with pre-existing conditions such as heart disease, lung issues

Signs of heatstroke are below, heavy panting and drooling are the most common. If you are concerned your dog is suffering for heatstroke:

🐕 Bring your dog into a cool shaded area
🐕 If possible submerge your dog in COLD water, a bath or shower or cover in continuously cold water
🐕 Offer some cold water to your dog
🐕 Ring your vet
