Hi cat friends,

Ok, let's make this unofficially official!

MeowCheck is now part of the Drawbridge HomeCheck service. Nothing about the current MeowCheck service will change, other than the transition from the Cattery website to the Drawbridge website. I will keep both up for some time, as I know we're all creatures of habit and I have many MeowCheck regulars!

If you are a regular, you'll find the new website to feature a simpler booking form. For those who are booking for the first time, you will find the booking experience to be quite personalized to your needs.

Drawbridge HomeCheck pledges to monitor your home for any concerns that may arise while you are away - whether you have cats or no cats! You may still have plants that need watering. Or a furnace you want to ensure isn't failing while you're gone. Or of course, the dreaded power outage that kills a refrigerator. We've had some wild wind storms already this Spring, and trees will do tree things to human-built dwellings!

I hope everyone has great plans for this summer, as I think it'll be a warm one.

Hi cat friends,

I've been enjoying visiting all of my repeat clients this year, but I'd sure like to be more busy! Let's hope you all figure out the best way to navigate this summer.

Just a quick update to say that on June 15th, 2026, I will be increasing the prices across the board by $1 per day. I feel that, given I haven't done a price increase in a while, this shouldn't be much of a burden on you folks. And of course the 10% discount on 15+ day blocks of visits still applies! So if you want to lock in at the current price list, you've got a month to get those bookings in!

I should also mention that I have a lawncare company secured for this year, so if you will be away for a bit and want your home to look like someone's home, getting the lawn done is a great way to do it!

Let's home this May long weekend doesn't let us down for weather. You know, the way it does almost every year. *laughs*

If you see these business cards on your kitchen table (because I was there recently), be sure to pass them along to your friends who leave their homes unattended for more than 3 days at a time! Cats or no cats.

Ah, the dreaded flyers.

We all love the deals inside.

But when you're away from home for a while, flyers are just one more thing telling the world, "Hey! This person isn't home! Opportunities await!"

Good thing I bring these things inside when I visit your cats! I also take the door hanger ads off the doors. Mail checks, when needed.

Recently, during a Meowcheck, I walked past a furnace vent and found this (this is not the actual image, but one I found online).

I dutifully kicked the ice away. Why? Because if it were to go unchecked, it could shut down your furnace, leading to more problems!

With MeowCheck, I do check for things like this. But for an even more comprehensive checklist, you can book with Drawbridge HomeCheck to ensure everything is good at home while you're away!

You likely won't get this attention to detail with the big name apps. *WINK*

Oh no! It’s municipal election season and the candidates are all telling on you!

Wait, what?

YES!

I opened my door today to receive a key for a home I’ll be checking on starting this weekend, and there was a door hanger on my door. It was from one of the candidates. Of course, I’m HOME, so I took it off right away.

But what if you’re away for a few days? What if someone is passing by your home daily, noticing the door hanger hasn’t been removed? What if this person uses these opportunities to check for unlocked windows? What if they find one?

Hi friends,

Safety first!

As you know, I patrol your home and tend to your cats while you're away. Some of you do not have cats, so I simply ensure your home is secure.

But I'm also looking for -potential- hazards.

Pictured is an example of optical glass spheres. They are becoming more popular as they become more affordable. They look amazing, right?! Photographers use them for certain optical effects. But they can also be a decorative addition to any room of your home.

With affordability comes seeing them in more homes.

While they are beautiful, they come complete with a very dangerous science experiment, built right in.

So what is this “science experiment?” Direct sunlight! If your glass sphere is being exposed to direct sunlight, it becomes a very efficient magnifying glass. Whatever is on the other side of that glass sphere is going to be exposed to high temperatures and, if flammable, could burst into flames. At the very least, do permanent damage to a surface.

If you own one or more of these beauties, please make sure you keep them away from windows, or direct sunlight. Perhaps a shelf or table where sunlight doesn’t beam directly into the home.

It is my goal to help you have a safer home, even if I’m not there!

It's never a good day when you learn that a client has passed away. RIP Kitty. In the end, you could barely see me, and pretty much not hear me, but you appreciated attention and your appetite was quite good when I came around to get you set up with more food. You will be missed.

This is a fact of life working in the pet industry, just like pet ownership. You will usually outlive your companions! But we move on and remember them, always.

Having said that, I should bring up the fact that if you are a current MeowCheck client and your furry friend crosses the rainbow bridge, and you choose to become a pet-free home, it's good to know that you and I already have that rapport. As MeowCheck becomes something more than just an in-home feline visiting service, you can still use the service as new plans become available. As mentioned earlier this summer, MeowCheck will become part of a formal home check service.

The benefit of a home check service is that your homeowners or renters insurance is kept intact in the event of property damage caused by flood (pipe failure), weather, appliance failure (fridge), or break-in attempts. This service will also rearrange your curtains as you wish, turn random lights on and off if you don't have that set up as a smart home feature, and check your mail (I have a number of clients receiving packages while they're away!).

So when that sad day comes, and I would never wish it on anyone, just know that we'll still be here to oversee the safety of your castle! (is this a hint as to what the name might be of the new service?!)
