One of the things I think we sometimes forget when raising young dogs is to let them be dogs.

We spend so much time teaching them what not to do.
Don’t pull.
Don’t jump.
Don’t chase that.
Don’t get dirty.
Don’t go in the mud.
Don’t do this. Don’t do that.

And yes- training matters. Boundaries matter. Learning how to exist appropriately in our very human world matters.

But so does this! 🤎
Run through the mud. Get absolutely filthy. Sniff something for five minutes. Splash through the water. Explore the woods. Climb on things. Play. Run. Investigate. Make choices. Be a dog.

Especially with puppies and young dogs, I don’t want every interaction with the world to become an obedience exercise.

There is a time for structure, a time for training, and a time when I genuinely could not care less that my freshly bathed dog has turned himself into a mud-covered swamp creature 😂

I want my dogs to know how to work with me, but I also want them to feel confident enough to experience the world without me micromanaging every second of it.

Training should never take the dog out of the dog.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for them is loosen up, let them explore, and accept that you’re probably going to need a bath afterward 🐾🤎

Benji! Benji is a Jack Russel Terrier puppy here for two weeks for a board and train! His owner has done an AMAZING job with him, he’s here to continue building on his skills, work on recall and learn to settle in public environments. He’s settling in well today ☀️

Hi everyone,

One of my wonderful senior clients is unfortunately facing some health challenges and, with a heavy heart, has made the difficult decision to find a new home for her senior Husky, Luna.

Luna is approximately 9 years old and has been with my client for the past 6 months after coming from a neglectful environment. Since then, she's made wonderful progress, but she'll still need a patient, understanding home willing to work with her.

To help make her transition as successful as possible, she will come with some private training sessions at no cost to her new family.

Luna would do best as the only dog in the home where she can enjoy a quiet, predictable retirement. With the right introduction, she may also do well with one calm, respectful larger dog, but her ideal home is one where she can simply relax and enjoy her golden years.

🐾 Not every dog needs a Board & Train and I'll be the first to tell you that.

Many dogs do thrive with private training sessions and I'll always recommend the program that's the best fit for both the dog and the owner.

One of the biggest concerns I hear is:

"I don't want to send my dog away for a couple of weeks." OR:
"I don't want to miss out on the training process"

I completely understand, that's a concern I'd have too.

The goal of a Board & Train isn't to take your place. It's to give your dog the time, consistency, and guidance they need while building a strong foundation that you'll continue when they come home.

My Board & Train program is home-based, meaning your dog lives in my home and becomes part of my everyday routine. Every day is intentionally structured with training sessions, walks, outings, household routines, and time to simply be a dog. Rather than training during one scheduled session each day, learning is woven into everyday life, helping behaviours become lasting habits.

Communication is a big part of my program, so throughout your dog's stay you'll receive:

📚 Homework and training guidance

🏡 Go-home lessons so you feel confident continuing your dog's training at home

🚪 Threshold training is about so much more than waiting at a doorway.

When we teach our dogs to pause before moving through a door, gate, crate, or vehicle, we’re not just teaching a “stay.”

We’re teaching them to:
🐾 Slow down.
🐾 Think before acting.
🐾 Look to us for guidance.
🐾 Practice patience, even when they’re excited.

These small moments of self-control build habits that carry over into everyday life. Whether it’s preventing a dog from rushing out the front door, jumping out of the car, or charging through a gate, threshold training helps create safer, calmer, and more thoughtful dogs.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s communication.
