WHAT'S YOUR OPINION - IS THERE ANY POINT TO RESCUE?
A lot of surprises with this cat! 1) The cat turned out to be an intact male and not a female, 2) the cat had an "owner" - despite its dirty matted appearance, and showing up at people's homes at all hours of the day or night! The cat had been acquired through Kijiji, never been to a vet, and roamed around freely for a couple of months - causing pregnant females and homeless kittens for Rescuers to try and help. Thankfully, after several exchanges, the "owner" [quotation marks indicate that sentient beings are viewed as "property", and not questioning ownership] agreed to neuter the cat and this is apparently happening today! But how many other cats like RIVER MIST are out there? What is the solution - should all "owned" free-roaming cats be sterilized? How would this be enforced and by who? It's heart-breaking to think that "feral" cats being hunted & killed in Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere - because they are being blamed for the problems caused by humans! Hungry & Homeless has been doing "Rescue" for almost 20 years and there are so many Rescues now - so why do the number of homeless cats keep going up? And why are the cat victims the ones being blamed & punished. What is the solution?

Oct. 16 was a good reminder that EVERYDAY we need to help feral cats! They provide great rodent services to communities at no charge, and without the terrible side effects of poisons & rodenticides getting into the food chain.

Following the post below, there is a graphic in the link below showing how much old growth is left on Vancouver Island - starting in 1800. Barely nothing, and that's one of the few places in Canada that has any left! Tragic that these rare sacred trees are being decimated in Canada & in the Amazon - all for money for a few, but a loss to all - as someone on the petition stated! 💔

In order to save cats & wildlife, we need to save habitat. And forests, particularly old-growth forests, save us all by giving us all fresh water to drink and air to breathe. JODELLE is all boostered now, but with drama. She was terrified about leaving in the carrier to go to the vet's, JAMES was super stressed and worried too. He was soooooo happy to see JODELLE again when she returned, he kissed and groomed her the moment she walked in and hasn't left her side since!! ❤

As per the post below, good news for big "orange" wild cats in California!!!! ❤

California banned mountain lion trophy hunting to protect the wild cats from extinction, and the story of how it happened is remarkable.

The state's voters made the ban permanent over 30 years ago. So what exactly did they vote for?

Proposition 117, passed by California voters in 1990 with 52% support, reclassified mountain lions as a specially protected mammal and permanently banned sport hunting of the species statewide. The law also allocated $30 million per year for 30 years to acquire and preserve critical wildlife habitat across the state.

But did the ban solve everything? Not quite. Despite the hunting ban, mountain lion populations in southern California still face serious threats from car strikes, habitat loss, wildfires and rat poison exposure.

What is being done about it now? Governor Newsom has since signed additional animal protection laws banning bobcat trophy hunting, fur sales and toxic rodenticides to further safeguard the state's wild cat populations.
