I started my business about 13 years ago, and in that time I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many young, enthusiastic, incredible dogs and their equally amazing humans. Over the years, many of these people have become true friends, and honestly, they feel more like extended family.

I spent countless life‑changing days with these dogs. They taught me to let go of what others think, to slow down, to live in the moment, to appreciate the nature around us, and to stop taking life so seriously (shoutout to wacko Jacko for that one).

As I mentioned, A&B Petcare began 13 years ago. Now many of the once‑young pups I knew are grey, slower, or enjoying their well‑earned retirement. Some have passed on, leaving behind memories that still fill my heart.

I wanted to make a post honouring the dogs who changed my life, and to thank their owners for trusting me with their companions during the years when dog walking was my full‑time world. I never called it a job as it never felt like one.

Recently, two of my favourite boys crossed the rainbow bridge. I was lucky enough to be able to say goodbye before they passed. Typing these words through tears is difficult, but it reminds me just how much love there was and always will be for these dogs who brought so much light into my life.

Today, I’m remembering Brady boy and Jacko. My two boys who were and still are loved deeply by both Henry and I. ❤️🤍

Working with dogs means being ready to meet every personality, every history, and every comfort level. Some pups greet us like long‑lost friends… and others need time, space, and patience before they feel safe with a new handler.

When I onboard new team members, this is one of the first scenarios we talk about. A dog who seems confident with their humans can completely shut down once the owner leaves — hiding, shaking, avoiding interaction. And that’s okay. Our job is to meet them where they are.

What we never do is force interaction or slip‑lead a fearful dog “because the walk must go on.” A scared dog who doesn’t know us is not a dog we take outside. Safety and trust come first, always.

Instead, we slow down.
We sit.
We avoid eye contact.
We toss treats and observe.
We let the dog set the pace.

If there’s a secure fenced yard, we may offer a quick potty break and try again next visit. Every dog deserves to feel safe, not pressured.

Recently, Cresta worked with a sweet boy named Mikey — a pup who struggles with confidence around new people. With patience, creativity, and zero pressure, Mikey went from hiding with his tail tucked… to tugging, belly rubs, and full‑on best‑friend energy. His transformation made both of us tear up.

As Mikey “said” in his review:
“Cresta is patient, kind, and clearly understands the complex emotional journey of a slightly dramatic 15‑month‑old pup.”

If you need a walker in Orleans who respects your dog’s pace and builds trust the right way — Cresta is your human.

Okay, so I’m not saying that it IS summer right now but summertime IS coming!! (The faster the better am I right?)

… and I thought what better way to announce that we are now hiring summer pet sitters (college/university students I’m looking at you!) then sharing a photo of our newest puppy walking client Willow! 🥹❤️

If you or someone you know is available/interested in pet sitting, dog walking and/or hosting pets over summer vacation please let us know! Looking for part time and casual independent contractors to join our team!

I see many of our clients balancing kids, work, and a dog who needs training and understandably this can feel like a lot. And somewhere along the way, the joy of having a dog starts to disappear.

One thing I often recommend?
Book a private park once a week and just let your dog be a dog.

No pressure. No training expectations. Just running, playing, and enjoying each other.

This is NOT a replacement for training—but it will help bring the enjoyment back into dog ownership while you’re working through the training process.

If your dog is good with your kids, I urge you to bring them along. Let it be something fun for everyone.

We love using Keshet Kennels’ indoor and outdoor runs—they’re clean, safe, and fully fenced, which gives so much peace of mind.

In this photo, my daughter Hailey is helping out—holding treats, giving pets, and getting involved in training. It’s something we genuinely enjoy doing together.

If your dog isn’t getting enough off-leash freedom right now, this might be a simple way to reset—for both of you!

We have had a really busy and exciting winter!

We added 3 new pet sitters/walkers to our team who offer evening/weekend walks as well as boarding in their home.

We brought back our in-client-home boarding services and as expected our pet sitters are booking up months in advance already!

We are still looking to add more exceptional people to our team. We are specifically looking for part time casual pet sitters/walkers in the Barrhaven and Kanata areas. We have quite the waitlist in that part of the city but as anyone who knows me knows I refuse to hire just anyone. Our clients care and safety is always my number one priority!

If you or someone you know might be a good fit for our team please email us at [email protected]

Please note: I will only be posting on Instagram/facebook once a week! I’ve come to the realization that too much social media time just isn’t my jam! But I am always around to answer emails or texts or to hop on a call with potential pet sitters or new clients!

Happy Friday! We have been very busy at A&B so apologies for the lack of posts! We hope everyone is keeping warm during this deep freeze but are still managing to get outside with their pups and enjoying some fresh air! ❄️🐾
