Socialization is not the act of flooding your dog with experiences. You’ll be helping your dog, regardless of their temperament, by learning to be neutral around anyone.

Indulge me for a moment: How would you feel if for one month, every time you walked into a new place, the grocery store, got on the bus, wherever: you had to say hi to EVERY. PERSON. Give them a hug, even. Some of them might be friendly and react well to it, some of them might be mean and tell you to go away, you never really know what you’re going to get. If you’re a people person, you may not mind the variety of reactions, but that may not be what others consider polite or enjoyable. On the inverse, you may be an introvert like me, and the idea of saying hi to people with the potential of upsetting others or getting a negative reaction, even if few, may create an anxiety around meeting people at all. Regardless, the outing would drain your social battery, never mind any physical exertion.
After that month was up, how would you feel when you went into social situations? Perhaps the anxiety would linger from the negative experiences you’d had? Perhaps you dread the exhaustion that comes with inevitable social interactions without end? Maybe the habit is so engrained that you’re that overly talkative person on the bus annoying everyone now? Maybe it’s water off a ducks back, and you’re just relieved to not have to interact with anyone anymore.
Now imagine you got a puppy. For the first few months of their life you flood them with meeting every person and dog, no exceptions, “it’s good for them” you’ve been told! What you risk in exposing them to unstructured social flooding is similar to the outcome of our hypothetical in the beginning. A more nervous puppy may come to dread meeting new people or dogs due to one bad experience that you didn’t expect. A more excited puppy may lose what little ability to regulate that they had and can no longer be neutral or calm around new people or dogs. You may even build a dog that is stressed at the idea of potentially having to meet the person oncoming and will do anything to avoid it and relieved when they scare them away with a l

Everyday Life.
Most people think dog training is about teaching commands.
Sit. Down. Stay. Come.
Those things do matter, but they’re not really the goal.
To me, training has never been about creating a robot or a dog that blindly listens to every command. You should be building a dog that you genuinely enjoy living with.
If you like taking walks, your dog should be able to walk with you without dragging you down the street. If you’re a coffee on the patio kind of person, your dog should be able to settle with you. If you like having dinner parties, your dog should greet guests politely. They should relax at home. They should understand what’s expected of them.
That’s what training should do.
It shouldn’t make your world smaller by forcing you to avoid situations because your dog can’t handle them. It should make your world bigger by giving you the confidence to enjoy more of it together.
So help me raise the standard of training. Your dog is capable of so much more than you might think, you just have to show them how.

What does your ideal life with your dog look like?

Summer frozen treats (not frozen yet) for the teething puppies!
This is the babies’ first summer so to help them handle the heat, while also soothing their aching gums, AND keeping them busy, I made a big treat with some foods they’ve never tried before!
They have solid gut health so I’m not too worried about the new food fallout but I will be keeping an eye on them after they eat it JUST in case.

Ingredients:
- banana slice to plug up the toppl hole
- bottom layer of plain yogurt
- sliced up carrots for some crunch
- a few freeze dried raw kibbles in the middle for a familiar treat
- thinly sliced banana layer to give the peanut butter something to smear on
- thin layer of peanut butter
- blueberries to top.
