Summer Tips from Stanley
✂️ Should You Shave Your Double-Coated Dog? Usually, No.
Many breeds such as Huskies, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, and Australian Shepherds have a double coat designed by nature to help regulate their body temperature year-round.
While it may seem like shaving your dog will help keep them cool in summer, removing the coat can actually:
🐾 Reduce natural insulation from heat
🐾 Increase the risk of sunburn and skin damage
🐾 Lead to uneven or abnormal coat regrowth
🐾 Interfere with your dog's ability to regulate body temperature
Instead of shaving, regular brushing helps remove excess undercoat, improves airflow to the skin, and keeps your pet comfortable.
There are medical situations where shaving may be necessary, but this should be done under veterinary guidance.
