🥸 Genetics crash course/ lesson of the day 🥸
I’ve been asked a few times before “how do you know what colours to expect in your litters”. are and the answer is ………….GENETICS 🤩.
I know it doesn’t make much sense we won’t get any red puppies this time because Ollie is a lovely red boy! You’d think we have 50/50 odds!
Well NOPE! In order to get red tri or a red Merle puppies the puppy must inherit TWO copies of the red gene, One from each parent.
The litter Leary was born from had a 25% chance of black base non red carrier puppies, 50% chance of black base red carrier puppies, and 25% red puppies. And Leary pulled the genetic short straw for a red gene 🙃
Soooo long story short all puppies will inherit one red gene from dad and one black gene from mom, resulting in all puppies being either black tri or blue Merle in colour BUT they all will carry the red gene 🤓
