Meet Sophie ✨
Sophie came in for a fresh groom and left looking beautifully polished.
For her finish, I kept the body practical and manageable while maintaining softness and balance through the legs and face. Her natural curl gives her such a lovely texture, so the goal was to create a clean, even silhouette without taking away from her character.
A good groom isn’t simply about making a dog shorter — it’s about working with the coat, the dog’s structure, and what will be realistic for the owner to maintain between appointments.
And Sophie was more than happy to show off the finished result. 🤍

As Calgary moves into the colder months, now is a good time to think about how you would like to maintain your dog’s coat throughout the season.
For dogs whose coat type is suited to carrying additional length, keeping a fuller winter coat can be a practical option for owners who would prefer not to rely heavily on sweaters or jackets. The key is starting the maintenance process before the coat becomes overgrown, tangled or matted.
Regular professional grooming can help us maintain length while keeping the coat clean, properly conditioned and manageable. Consistent bathing, drying, brushing and coat preparation also give us far more flexibility than waiting until matting develops and a shorter trim becomes necessary.
Every coat is different, so winter maintenance should always be based on your dog’s breed, coat texture, lifestyle and individual needs.

🍂Fall is coming and so are the allergies.

As we move out of summer and into our cooler fall season, your dog’s coat can be carrying more than just a little dirt from all those summer adventures.

Pollen, dust, dried grass, environmental debris and other outdoor irritants can settle deep into the coat, especially on dogs with dense, curly, long or double coats.

A thorough professional groom can be a great seasonal reset.

A proper bath, coat cleanse, conditioning treatment and blow-dry can help remove accumulated summer debris from the coat and skin while preparing your dog for a whole new season of fall allergens.

Think of it as changing over the wardrobe except your dog is wearing theirs 24/7.

Apparently having a bath is exhausting when you’re Kipper.
Short coat does not mean no coat maintenance.
One misconception I hear fairly often is that short-haired, double-coated dogs don’t really need professional baths because they don’t have long hair, tangles or a haircut to maintain.
But underneath that sleek exterior is an entire second layer of coat.
A short double coat still continually accumulates:
• loose and compacted undercoat
• natural oils and sebum
• dead skin and dander
• dirt, pollen and environmental debris
A thorough bath does much more than make the dog smell nice.
Proper cleansing, conditioning and high-velocity drying help release dead undercoat, clean the skin beneath the coat and support normal coat turnover. The drying process is especially important with double coats because it separates the hair and physically moves loose undercoat that brushing alone may leave behind.
And no bathing a dog does not inherently “strip all the oils from their skin.”
Product choice, dilution, water temperature, thorough rinsing, conditioning and drying technique all matter. A well-designed grooming routine should support the skin barrier rather than simply degrease the coat.
Kipper may never need an elaborate haircut, but his coat still deserves intentional maintenance.
He has chosen to recover from that maintenance by being unconscious for the foreseeable future.

Hello, Calgary.

For those who do not know me yet, I’m Addison, the groomer behind Addison Grooming Studio, and I am pleased to announce that I am now grooming at The Beast Boutique.

My approach is centred around intentional grooming, coat health and creating a finished style that suits the dog in front of me.

I especially enjoy working with poodles, curly and long-coated breeds, specialty trims, significant transformations, puppies and dogs that benefit from a patient, thoughtful approach to grooming.

I also believe strongly in client education. Maintaining a beautiful coat is a partnership between professional grooming appointments and the right home-care routine, and I am always happy to help clients understand what their individual dog requires.

A new chapter for Addison Grooming Studio
I’m pleased to share that I am now grooming from The Beast Boutique in Calgary.

While the location is new, the standard of care remains the same. My work will continue to focus on thoughtful, individualized grooming with close attention to coat condition, balance, finish and the comfort of each dog on my table.

My specialties include:

• Coat rehabilitation and corrective grooming
• Puppy introductions and first grooms
• Nervous and sensitive dogs
• One-on-one, detail-focused grooming

Misha and Mochi two beautiful cats, and two very different reviews of the grooming process. 🤍

One looks wide-eyed and deeply concerned.
The other appears to be quietly reconsidering every life decision that led to the bath.

Behind the expressions, though, is an important reminder: professional cat grooming is not simply cosmetic.

For many cats, especially long-haired cats, regular grooming helps remove loose undercoat, reduce shedding, prevent matting, improve comfort, and support overall coat and skin health. Some cats maintain their coats beautifully on their own, while others benefit greatly from skilled, gentle assistance.

At Addison Grooming Studio, feline grooming is approached with patience, careful observation, and respect for the cat in front of me. Cats are handled according to their comfort, coat condition, and tolerance not rushed through a process that doesn’t suit them.

Sometimes the result is a smoother coat, less shedding, and a more comfortable cat.
Sometimes the result is also a slightly offended expression wrapped in a towel.

Either way, Misha and Mochi were very good for their appointment, and both left feeling cleaner, lighter, and better maintained.
