National White Cat Day is celebrated every year on September 5 to honor white felines and raise awareness about their specific health and rescue needs

Key Facts About White CatsRarity:

Pure white coats make up only about 5% of the total cat population.

Deafness: White cats—especially those with blue eyes—have a higher rate of congenital deafness due to their genetics.

Sun Sensitivity: Pale fur lacks pigment protection, making white cats very vulnerable to sunburn and skin damage.

Not Always Albino: Standard white cats have masking or white-fur genes, which differ from true albinism.

This little girl in the photo is Coconut, she was adopted by one of our amazing volunteers and is absolutely loving life 😻😻😻

Adoption update 😻😻

This is Walter, he came to Little Claws Rescue after being trapped by our local Council, who thought he deserved a second chance..

As you can see, Walter definitely won the jackpot!!!

He is a true Aladdin ❤️ street cat turned into a prince, he deserves the world and his new mum is definitely giving him that!!

Our Ziva girl has been to the vets for some sores and she has been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)

Here is a little write up about the syndrome

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) in cats, also known as cutaneous asthenia or dermatosparaxis, is a rare inherited connective tissue disorder caused by abnormal collagen production.

Common SymptomsHyper-stretchy skin: Skin pulls away from the body easily and forms loose, sagging folds.

Extreme fragility: Minor scratches, normal grooming, or gentle petting can cause the skin to tear or bruise easily.

Delayed healing: Wounds take longer to close and frequently leave thin scars.

Joint laxity: Loose or hypermobile joints can lead to dislocations or arthritis.

Management and CareThere is no cure for EDS, so treatment focuses entirely on preventing injury.

"Baby-proof" the home by removing or padding sharp furniture edges.

Keep the cat's nails trimmed short or use nail caps to prevent self-inflicted scratching injuries.

Minimise contact with other active pets and keep the cat indoors.

This is something very new to us as we have not seen this before in the rescue.

She will be needing a special home once she is feeling better and healed.

Attention Market Stall Holders

Wallaroo Primary School Year 5/6 learners are looking for market stalls for our Fun Fair fundraiser for Little Claws Rescue. The event will have games for children to play made by learners in Room 6 at Wallaroo Primary School.

Our class has been doing a project on how we can support the cats and kittens in our community. As a result, we are fundraising to help Little Claws Rescue get their vet bill down.

No charge for setting up a stall.

We just ask that you make a donation to Little Claws Rescue on the night. You will need to supply public liability insurance.
