MJ was incredibly cuddly with our team and was more than happy to receive some extra TLC during her visit.

๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿพ R U OK? ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿพ

Today is a little reminder to check in with the people around you โ€” your friends, family, coworkers, neighbours and even the person you havenโ€™t spoken to in a while.

Working in veterinary care can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with emotional days, busy moments and challenges that arenโ€™t always visible from the outside. The same goes for life in general. Sometimes, a simple โ€œAre you okay?โ€ can mean more than we realise. ๐Ÿ’›

So today, take a moment to:
๐Ÿพ Ask someone how theyโ€™re really going
๐Ÿพ Take the time to listen
๐Ÿพ Let them know theyโ€™re not alone
๐Ÿพ Check in again โ€” not just today, but any day

And remember, you donโ€™t have to have all the answers. Sometimes being there and listening is enough to start an important conversation.

From all of us at VetCare Woodlea โ€” R U OK? ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™ Helping our senior dogs move with more comfort ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Is your dog slowing down, struggling to get up, or not enjoying their favourite activities like they used to? These changes can sometimes be signs of osteoarthritis (arthritis) - a common condition that affects many dogs as they age.

โœจ Introducing Beransa - a monthly injection designed to help manage osteoarthritis pain in dogs.โœจ

Beransa works by targeting and reducing pain associated with osteoarthritis, helping many dogs experience improved comfort, mobility, and quality of life.

๐Ÿถ Benefits of Beransa may include:

๐Ÿ’™ More enjoyment during walks and playtime
๐Ÿ’™ Improved comfort around the home
๐Ÿ’™ Support for long-term arthritis management
๐Ÿ’™ A convenient once-a-month injection administered by our veterinary team

Every pet is different, and arthritis management often involves a combination of treatments including weight management, exercise plans, supplements, and pain relief options tailored specifically to your dogโ€™s needs.

If youโ€™ve noticed your dog slowing down, becoming less active, or showing changes in their mobility, our team at VetCare Woodlea is here to help create a plan to keep them comfortable and happy. ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿฆทโœจ Kaju & Lola Are Smiling Bright! โœจ๐Ÿฆท

Kaju and Lola were two of our clever patients who took advantage of our August Dental Month Promotion ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

They both came in for their dental checks with our nurses, giving us the opportunity to have a closer look at their teeth and gums and assess their overall dental health. ๐Ÿชฅ๐Ÿฆท

Dental health is an important part of your petโ€™s overall wellbeing. Just like us, pets can develop plaque, tartar and dental disease, and regular dental checks can help identify problems before they become more serious.

A big well done to Kaju and Lola for looking after those pearly whites! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿพ

And of course, a huge thank you to their owners for making their petsโ€™ dental health a priority. ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’— Skittle's Surprise Arrival ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿพ

It was a busy afternoon at VetCare Woodlea when beautiful mumma Skittles came in with quite a story to tell.

Skittles had gone into labour overnight in a bamboo bush and delivered her first kitten - a tiny baby named Bamboo! ๐ŸŽ‹๐Ÿฑ

Skittles cared for Bamboo overnight, but when she arrived at VetCare Woodlea after not having any more kittens, our team investigated further.

We performed xrays and an ultrasound, which revealed that Skittles still had more kittens waiting to make their grand entrance! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿพ

This afternoon, our VetCare Woodlea team jumped into action and performed an emergency C-section to safely deliver the remaining kittens. While Skittles was under anaesthesia, she was also desexed.

And the final count? FOUR beautiful babies! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฑ

We're absolutely thrilled to hear from the rescue that all four babies are nursing beautifully, and Skittles is doing a wonderful job being their mum. ๐Ÿ’—

A huge well done to our amazing VetCare Woodlea team for acting quickly and helping Skittles and her babies safety through this unexpected delivery. ๐Ÿฉบโœจ

And of course... welcome to the world, little ones! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’™ Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) โ€“ What Every Cat Owner Should Know ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฑ

Hearing that a cat has FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) can sound frightening, but with the right care, many FIV-positive cats live long, happy, and fulfilling lives.

What is FIV? FIV is a virus that affects a cat's immune system, making it harder for them to fight off infections. It only affects cats and cannot be passed to people or other animal species.

How is it spread? The virus is most commonly spread through deep bite wounds, which is why entire male cats that roam and fight are at the highest risk. It is not easily spread through sharing food bowls, litter trays, or simply living together in a calm household.

Signs of FIV: Some cats show no signs for many years. When illness does occur, symptoms may include:
๐Ÿพ Frequent infections
๐Ÿพ Slow wound healing
๐Ÿพ Weight loss
๐Ÿพ Poor coat condition
๐Ÿพ Dental disease or inflamed gums
๐Ÿพ Fever or lethargy

Can it be treated? While there is currently no cure for FIV, supportive veterinary care can help affected cats enjoy an excellent quality of life. Regular health checks, prompt treatment of illness, a nutritious diet, and keeping FIV-positive cats safely indoors can make a significant difference.

Can FIV be prevented? The best ways to reduce the risk include:
โœ”๏ธ Desexing your cat to help reduce roaming and fighting.
โœ”๏ธ Keeping your cat indoors or providing a secure outdoor enclosure.
โœ”๏ธ Scheduling regular veterinary health checks.
โœ”๏ธ Testing new cats before introducing them into a household with other cats.

๐Ÿ’™ An FIV diagnosis is not the end of a cat's story. With love, responsible care, and regular veterinary support, many FIV-positive cats continue to enjoy many wonderful years with their families.

If you have questions about FIV or would like to discuss testing or preventative care, our team at VetCare Woodlea is always here to help.

๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿฑ Dr. Samโ€™s Big Day! ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฉบ

Our very handsome Dr. Sam came in for his desexing procedure! ๐Ÿ’™

Before heading through for his procedure, Dr. Sam was busy charming the VetCare Woodlea team with plenty of cuddles, attention and some very important playtime with the toys. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŽพ

He was such a sweet boy and happily soaked up all the love and attention from the team before and after his procedure.

After all that hard work being adorable, Dr. Sam was ready for his desexing and did wonderfully! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿฆทโœจ Brush Today, Smile Tomorrow! โœจ๐Ÿฆท

Did you know that most dogs and cats show signs of dental disease by the age of 3? Dental disease isn't just about bad breath - it can cause pain, infection, tooth loss, and may even affect important organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys if left untreated.

The good news? Brushing your pet's teeth is one of the best ways to keep their mouth healthy!

Regular tooth brushing can help:
๐Ÿชฅ Reduce plaque and tartar build-up.
๐Ÿชฅ Prevent painful gum disease.
๐Ÿชฅ Keep breath fresher.
๐Ÿชฅ Protect your pet's overall health.
๐Ÿชฅ Reduce the need for future dental procedures.

Here are a few tips to get started:
๐Ÿพ Use a toothbrush and toothpaste made specifically for pets (never use human toothpaste).
๐Ÿพ Start slowly and make it a positive experience with lots of praise and treats.
๐Ÿพ Aim for daily brushing, but even a few times a week can make a big difference.
๐Ÿพ Begin brushing when they're young if possibleโ€”but it's never too late to start!

Remember, brushing at home doesn't replace professional dental care. Regular dental checks allow us to spot problems early and recommend the best treatment for your furry family member.

If you're unsure how to brush your pet's teeth or would like to book a FREE nurse dental check, our friendly team at VetCare Woodlea is here to help!
