WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU LOSE A CAT OR DOG 🐾
Losing a beloved pet can be incredibly stressful, and in those first moments it can be difficult to know where to start.

PAWSAFE 🐾 has created two simple guides, one for missing dogs and one for missing cats with important steps that can help owners begin their search.

📌 PLEASE SAVE THESE POSTERS

When an owner's pet is missing, please add the appropriate DOG or CAT poster to the comments of their post.

The sooner an owner has the right information, the sooner they can put the correct steps into place.

🐕 MISSING DOGS
The first hours are important.

🐈 MISSING CATS
Cats often behave very differently when displaced. Searching quietly, checking hiding places, speaking with neighbours and searching during the quiet early morning hours can all be important.

❌️FURTHER UPDATE ❌️

I just want to add something, because I understand there will always be people who agree and people who disagree.

PAWSAFE🐾 was not involved in any decision making regarding the future or fate of this little fox family.

Our involvement was very simple, an animal had been heard in distress inside a drain, and we responded.

We didn't know what animal was inside that pipe when we arrived. Even when I was inside the pipe I thought it was a young puppy. We just knew something needed help.

And I can say this without hesitation if I knew before hand that it was a fox inside that pipe, I still would have climbed in there to help.

I would do it again a million times.

Whether you agree with me or not is completely your choice.

This post isn't about debating what is right or wrong when it comes to foxes. It's about what PAWSAFE did that morning, an animal was heard in distress, and we took action.

That's who we are.

♥️UPDATE - MUM CAME BACK ♥️

We have just received the most beautiful update from this morning's adventure at Edwardes Lake Park.

There wasn't just one baby fox in that drain… there were FIVE!

After everyone left and things became quiet again, mum fox returned to the grate and began retrieving her babies one by one, taking them up the hill to safety.

All five little pups were accounted for and mum is looking after them.

This is exactly why leaving the drain open and giving mum the opportunity to return was so important. What started this morning as a report of a possible dog trapped in a drain ended with an entire little fox family being reunited.

And suddenly crawling through that muddy pipe feels even more worth it! 😂

🐾 WHAT AN EVENTFUL MORNING! 😂🦊

This morning, Shailee Holloway and myself headed out to Edwardes Lake Park in Reservoir after seeing a post about what was believed to be a dog barking from inside a drain.

And of course… PAWSAFE doesn’t waste any time! 😂

I climbed down into the drain, yes, you read that correctly and dragged myself through the pipe trying to find where the little cries were coming from.

Then, with my headtourch, I saw two tiny little eyes staring back at me. 👀

From where I was, it looked like a little baby pup.

Council arrived, the Fire Brigade arrived, and so did several wonderful members of the community. There were so many people helping that unfortunately I didn't manage to get everyone's names.

And apparently the Fire Brigade were pretty impressed with my drain crawling efforts. 😂

By the time I came back out, I looked like I'd just paid good money for a full body mud bath! 🤦‍♀️😂
But then came the surprise…
Our little "puppy" was actually a BABY FOX! 🦊❤️

Once everyone realised what we were dealing with, the drain was left open so this little one could safely make its own way back out.

A huge thank you to Rachel and Kate who originally raised the alarm, Council, the Fire Brigade, Shailee and every single person who stopped and came together to help this little animal today.

It didn't matter that it wasn't a dog.
It didn't matter that it wasn't someone's pet.
It was a little life that might have needed help, and an entire community showed up.

Why?
Because at PAWSAFE 🐾 EVERY PAW MATTERS. 🐾❤️

♥️IVY HAS BEEN FOUND SAFE! ♥️
After 8 long days, the beautiful Ivy is finally safe!

Ivy got out on 10 September, and what a journey it has been.

There were so many sightings. We set up food stations and cameras, moved them to different locations and continued following every lead, but this sweetheart just kept moving!

Then this morning, we received a call from Vanessa to say Ivy had been sighted again.

Sure enough, myself and Tammie Carey, one of our wonderful PAWSAFE 🐾 volunteers, headed out and met up with Jamie, Zoe and Piper (Ivy’s sister).

We set up another camera and food station and hoped that this time we might finally have Ivy in the right area.

Then at exactly 5:06pm, another sighting came through!

Jamie and Zoe raced over to where Ivy had just been seen and there she was!

Ivy ran straight past Piper, and Jamie went full for leather after her!

AND HE GOT HER!!! 🤣

IVY WAS FINALLY SAFE!

After eight days of worrying, searching, sightings, cameras and food stations, Ivy is finally back where she belongs.

I think Jamie, Zoe, Piper and Ivy are going to sleep VERY well tonight!

A massive thank you to Vanessa for that important sighting this morning, and to every single person who reported seeing Ivy, shared her posts or kept their eyes open for her.

A huge thank you to our incredible PAWSAFE volunteers. Our volunteers make time in their own lives to assist owners and their pets.

They drive kilometres, attend sightings, set up food stations and cameras, check equipment and continue showing up until we can hopefully get that beautiful message:

“THEY’VE BEEN FOUND.”

PAWSAFE is extremely grateful that we can continue doing what we do.

Everything we do comes with costs, fuel, food, cameras, batteries and rescue equipment so if anyone would like to help us continue helping families like Ivy’s, even the smallest donation would mean the world to us.

🚨IMPORTANT UPDATE ON AVI - 21/09/2026

We wanted to provide an update following new information received regarding Avi.

There has been speculation surrounding the travel dates of Avi's owners.
Avi's owners travelled from 5 August to 10 September 2026, as agreed with the carer, who had been paid in full to care for Avi during this period. Arrangements were made for Avi to be collected on 11 September.

Avi was NOT collected from the carer's residence by Council, as previously stated.

Prior to this, the carer had contacted Avi's owners stating that Avi was barking continuously, losing hair and that there had been complaints. The carer advised that Avi would need to be collected immediately unless the owners transferred a further $500, stating that keeping Avi was no longer worth the "hassle or trouble". We have evidence of these communications via text messages.

We have now been advised that on 18 August 2026, Avi was presented to a veterinary clinic as a stray and subsequently entered the stray animal process.

We also want to make it very clear that, based on the information now available to us, the authorities and parties involved followed the legal procedures required of them once Avi was presented as a stray.

Avi was publicly listed in an attempt to locate his owner and, after the required holding period and subsequent process, we have been advised that Avi was adopted on the 13th day.

Our questions and concerns are not directed at those who subsequently dealt with Avi through that process, but rather at the circumstances that led to a much loved family pet, who was in paid care while his owners were overseas, being presented to a veterinary clinic as a stray.

We also now know that Avi's microchip details had not been updated. His owners acknowledge this.
Unfortunately, this, together with the difficulty in communicating with the owners while they were overseas, made reaching them considerably more difficult.

This leaves us with an extremely important question:

❌️How does a much loved family pet, whose carer had been paid in full to look after him while his owners were overseas, end up at a veterinary clinic as a stray just two weeks later?❌️

Even during discussions, sadness was expressed about how this entire situation unfolded.

❌️ WHAT'S NEXT?

At this point, it is now up to Avi's owners to decide how they wish to proceed, including whether they pursue legal avenues and involve the media.

We understand there will be different opinions about Avi's situation, and that's okay. People are entitled to their views, and we ask that discussions remain respectful and compassionate towards everyone involved.

What we don't want to lose sight of is Avi and his family. PAWSAFE 🐾 cares deeply about what has happened to them, and we will continue to be here for Avi's family for whatever support they may require.

At the same time, PAWSAFE 🐾 will continue doing what we were created to do helping lost, roaming and vulnerable dogs, supporting families and working alongside our communities to get animals to safety.

Every situation teaches us something. We will continue learning, correcting information when necessary and doing the best we can for the animals and families who reach out to us.

A massive thank you to the authorities and parties involved for reaching out to us, providing further information and helping us establish a clearer understanding of what occurred.

To the person or family who adopted Avi, please contact us privately.

Because at the end of the day, Every Paw matter. ❤️

UPDATE ON OUR BEAUTIFUL WILLOW FROM MELTON 🐾❤️

Our beautiful Willow is safe and slowly starting to decompress.

She is a very timid little girl, but you can already see how grateful she is to be somewhere safe.

We don't know what her life was like before she was found, but we do know that the last two weeks surviving in the Melton wetlands would have been incredibly hard on her.

Willow is not microchipped.

If no owner comes forward, our biggest wish is that someone special will give this beautiful girl the chance she deserves.

📍Someone patient.
📍Someone gentle.
📍Someone who will give her the time she needs to learn that she is safe, loved and never has to fend for herself again.

Please keep an eye on Melton Pound for updates regarding Willow and her future availability.

And when the time comes, if someone opens their heart and home to our girl, PAWSAFE 🐾 will provide food to help support her. 🐾

Please, when Willow becomes available, someone give our beautiful girl a chance.
She deserves to know what it feels like to be truly loved and cared for. ❤️

🚨 MELTON — SHE IS SAFE!! MEET WILLOW! 🚨
What an incredible day, to say the least. ❤️

This precious soul had been living around the Melton wetlands for nearly TWO WEEKS!!

Locals had started feeding her, which is most likely why she stayed close to the area.

Today, we were determined to change her story.

Shailee Holloway arrived around 10:30am and I arrived at 11am. We started going through the sighting photos, trying to work out the exact locations where she had been seen.

That's when we came across two beautiful locals Pat and Bill whose property backs onto the reserve and wetlands.

I waved to them from a distance and we headed straight over. They told us they had seen this girl many times.
And then suddenly Pat says ...
“THERE SHE IS!”

We turned around and there she was. Standing there, staring straight at us.

At that moment, the plan became very simple:

This girl was getting rescued TODAY.

We weren't leaving the area without her.
And after nearly two weeks of surviving out there...

WE GOT HER. ❤️🐾

But not without some serious action! 😂
I managed to get a slip lead around her, but the choker wasn't working, so I asked for a second slip lead. As soon as that second lead went around her neck, she became frightened and suddenly jumped straight into the wetlands! Before anyone could even think twice, our incredible PAWSAFE 🐾 volunteer Andrea Dujakovic JUMPED STRAIGHT IN AFTER HER! 😳😂
No hesitation. She just went after this girl and got her safely out of the water.

Bloody trooper! Andrea, you absolute legend.

Now for the thank yous.
📍Alistair always there for PAWSAFE at the drop of a hat, along with his beautiful partner in crime, Banjo, his fur baby.
📍Shailee and Andrea our PAWSAFE legends. Thank you for showing up and refusing to give up on this girl.

To the beautiful locals Pat and Bill who helped us today and offered their home.

To every single locals who had been watching over her and feeding her — THANK YOU.

And a MASSIVE THANK YOU to every single person who posted in the Melton groups and kept putting her face out there. Every post, every share, every sighting and every person who kept an eye out helped us get to this moment.

THIS is what community is all about.

And of course, this beautiful girl needed a name.

After nearly two weeks surviving around the wetlands, WE CALLED HER WILLOW. ❤️

Tonight Willow isn't wandering.
Tonight she doesn't have to wonder where her next meal is coming from.
Tonight, Willow is SAFE. ❤️

🐾 SIMBA HAS FOUND HIS FAMILY! 🐾

Today was a very special day for Simba. ❤️

After reaching out for help to find this gorgeous boy a new home, we are so happy to share that Simba has found the most amazing, loving family! 🏡🐶

Simba was picked up today, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. Everyone is absolutely over the moon, and it’s clear he is going to be surrounded by so much love. 🥹❤️

For Simba’s owner, saying goodbye was incredibly difficult. Rehoming a much-loved pet is never an easy decision, but sometimes loving them means putting their needs first. His owner knew that finding Simba a home where he could receive all the love, time and care he deserves was the right thing to do for him.

It takes a lot of love to make such a selfless decision. ❤️

We are so grateful to Simba’s beautiful new family for opening their hearts and their home to him. Seeing everyone so happy today made it all worthwhile.

Here’s to the next chapter for our gorgeous Simba — filled with cuddles, adventures and all the love he deserves. 🐾🏡❤️

Happy new beginnings, Simba! 🥰

💔HEARTBREAKING UPDATE ON BEAR 💔

We are absolutely heartbroken for Jacky and her family. They have endured days of searching, hoping and praying for Bear to come home, and this is not the outcome any of us wanted.

To Jackie and her family, the entire PAWSAFE 🐾 community sends our deepest condolences, love and strength on such an incredibly sad day. 💔

Thank you to every Pawsafe volunteer, who shared Bear’s posts, kept watch, searched and held onto hope alongside his family.

Rest peacefully, beautiful Bear. 🌈🐾

Our hearts are with Bear’s family today. ❤️

🎉🐾 WELCOME HOME, PABLO! 🐾🎉

This little sweetheart went missing on Saturday, 5th September 2026, and from the moment PAWSAFE 🐾 reached out to his owner, our incredible volunteers were there.

Throughout the entire weekend, volunteers were out searching, keeping watch and doing everything they could to help bring Pablo home.

And then came the phone call we had all been hoping for…

PABLO HAS BEEN FOUND & COUNCIL HAD HIM SAFE!!

His little adventure has finally come to an end!

A huge thank you to our wonderful PAWSAFE volunteers who continue to step up time and time again for lost pooches, and for supporting Shanti through what was an incredibly stressful and emotional weekend.

She was absolutely beside herself when Pablo got out, and having people around her who cared made such a difference.

And thank you to every single person who shared Pablo's post, commented, kept an eye out and helped spread the word. ♥️
