Look at Kelpie go! Thank you to Petra for helping me with him while I’m in recovery.
Times are tough, but watching my boy being worked and improving with every ride just makes me more motivated. I don’t think i’m ready to give up just yet. 😊

I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately. Focusing on bringing my boy into regular work has been difficult with the excess load from a working mondays-saturdays 7am-4pm, plus university.
Unfortunately, with all the stress built up in me, it came crashing down, along with my butt. We had a nasty accident last Friday, I couldn’t feel my legs and the hospital was worried I was left paralysed from my injuries.
Fortunately, I recovered from the small injuries and now I am just stuck in bed for the foreseeable. Slowly regaining strength in my legs with the help from crutches.
My family, and my extended family— including my boyfriend and his mum, have been unbelievably supportive and helpful with my recovery. Although it sucks having to ask for help, I can’t do much else.
Sadly, this leaves me in a predicament that I must think about for a while— whether I hang up the boots, sell my boy and walk away from everything— Or continue this journey and risk making the situation worse for myself.
As it is, I struggle to get by, paying a fortune in feed weekly for my horse to survive. However I love him with my entire heart and can’t bring myself to part ways with him.
Thankfully, I have a while to think about what i’d like to do.

I wanted to show a raw video of the reality of how things are going with my beautiful boy 💖
Not everything is always pretty, especially my position and riding technique. The first part of the video is how i had been riding Kelpie the last couple of months, he was showing signs of back pain and tension in his hind. This is because he was using all of his front muscles and barely any of his hind, common in racehorses. It was extremely difficult to get him into collection. I finally got my instructor out to see what i could improve on to introduce that contact i’m looking for.
We need to start from scratch, which i’m totally okay with, as long as it means my horse isn’t in consistent pain like he was before. He needs to start by lifting his head up to feel more connection between my hands and the bit.
I need to lift my hands up in order for that to happen. This also encouraged forward movement.
On top of this, he is still due to be properly fitted his saddle, which I will only do once he has filled out a bit more. He came to me just a little bit skinny, which is completely normal for thoroughbreds, so i’ve been working my magic with his nutritionist and physio (Tracey, whom is also my legend of an agistment manager), to test beneficial supplements, feeds and an increased amount of roughage to encourage weight gain.

This horse is just the best, he tries his heart out. I really lucked out with him.

🐴 During the hot weather, here are some tweaks to our daily routine:
MORNING 8-10am and EVENING 5-9
- Feed SOAKED
• oaten chaff 🍃 - mixer 🥣
• calm performer 🫘 - self explanatory
• supremeMVA 💊 - packed with vitamins and minerals to protect against UV damage ☀️, encourages weight gain, shinier coat AND stronger hooves 🧲
• molasses 🍯 - encourages hydration an adds flavour🧃
Plus a biscuit or two of hay 🌾 in a hay bag— i try to prevent feeding him hay on the ground unless it is being fed over grass. During the warmer conditions, it’s dusty over the ground which introduces an unwelcome guest, colic 😷!

I ensure Kelpie has access to COOL water 💦 not freezing cold water. Additionally, that water is checked on a number of times during the day plus cleaned at least once every couple of days.

LOADS of fly spray 🪰
Fly spray, natures botanical creams, and fly veils to ensure my boy isn’t getting pi**ed off by the buzzing or bites from nasty insects 🦟

RIDING
• 10 minutes walking
• 10 minutes trotting
• 5 minutes cantering
Once done, he is hosed down on the sweatier patches to cool him down.

My boy has never looked or felt better with the help of this routine. ❤️😊

This is Ryeleigh! A new horse that I have been working on for a beautiful lady down here. 😃

Ryeleigh is the most honest boy and tries his absolute heart out. Awesome breed, too, he’s a Waler horse! 🐴

Waler horses were originally used with the Australian Light Horse in WWI 😍 and are know for their beautiful and calm temperament 😎

I have sessions open for mornings only during Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday every week unless mentioned otherwise 🩷🦄
