Some tips and tricks for medicating your cat 💊🐱

Many owners find giving medication to their cat challenging, you are definitely not alone! But we never want difficulty with medicating to get in the way of their treatment. If you are struggling, please ask your vet. There are often a few different options we can try!

Tip 1: Hide it in a creamy treat

Try hiding the medication in a creamy treat or a small amount of high-value wet food. Some medications can also be crushed and mixed in

Tip 2: Try a pill pocket treat

These soft treats are designed to hide tablets and often have a creamy centre, making medication much easier to disguise.

Tip 3: Ask about different flavours and formulations

There are often more options than you might think! Some medications can be compounded into flavoured or flavourless preparations, and certain medications may also be available as liquids, powders or ointments.

Tip 4: Use a pill dispenser

A pill dispenser can make giving tablets quicker and safer. Your cat won’t simply open their mouth and happily take their medication (despite what the photos might suggest!). It can take a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it can be a game changer.

And remember: if medicating your cat is becoming stressful for either of you, please reach out. There may be another way we can make their treatment easier.
