We’ve been helping our friends at The Botanic Gardens Cranbourne manage their bio filtration pond that naturally filters pollutants and nutrients and improves water quality.

We’ve got to cross paths with Common Eastern Blue tongue Lizards in the reserves of the outer east of Melbourne.

There’s been Koala encounters whilst putting in some hard yards mapping and controlling priority w**ds in Northern Western Port Nature Conservation Reserve.

We planted Southern Sassafras in Cool Temperate Rainforest gullies.

Our first trial using Di Bak G slow release herbicide capsules for woody w**d control got underway.

We’ve been busy. We’ve kept out of trouble……we think 😆

So, what have we seen and been up
to?

We have a new skipper! With Taj getting his marine licence that makes 3 of us who can run the boat now which is handy. Incredible Eagle Ray escorts for the boat whilst working in Northern Western Port. Banjo Shark spotted also. Intriguing, small hollows being worked, prepared, lived in. Wonder who the owner is?

Slashing, raking out and carefully opening up spaces and gaps in vegetation for the coming seasons. Kilsyth South area. Hopefully creating more habitat opportunities for a diverse array of plants and critters.

Been a great week!

Those talons. Just look those talons! Bad day to be a possum! Had to zoom in a bit to get them but over the last 2 days we’ve crossed paths with one
of the hills resident Powerful Owl families. Adult and juvenile/immature in these pics. It’s never anything less than magical to see these amazing birds.

More watering, more Ivy work, scaly sticks in the tussocks and spikey things. Come on rain, let’s do this thing please!

That big old stag of a Mountain Grey Gum is providing amazing habitat though as you can see from the Agile Antechinus we bumped in to! Very cool critters.

Time for some action shots. Ladder, harness, up Asha goes! For the record, yep we have working at heights tix 👍. Some difficult to access Ivy in Sherbrooke Forest growing in between the codominant leaders of an old, dead Mountain Grey Gum.

Taj and Dave tackled Pampas Grass with chainsaw deeper in the gullies of Cardinia Reservoir Park. Skillfully dodged a three stemmed Hazel Pomaderris growing out of the middle of a big, mature specimen. Nice work 👌

Plant people, would love some insights and thoughts! Senecio species. Lysterfield Hills area. Naturekit lists it as Lowland Forest but its past history and management give it a more Grassy Forest structure. Single stem, quite woody base. Just presents differently than the species we are accustomed to
seeing. It’s the ‘vibe’ that’s got our head scratching. You know the vibe!
