💙Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart. 🐦

We know the size of our pet doesn't change the amount of love we have for them. At Hold My Paws we take on appointments with pocket pets, including birds, rabbits and guinea pigs, because we know how much these little creatures make the biggest impact on us, and deserve care and respect like any other patient.

From their little chirps in the morning to their silly personalities, curious little adventures and the comfort of simply having them nearby, smallest moments often become the ones we treasure most. 🥹💕

Our pets don’t have to be big to make a big impact on our hearts.

And whether they have four paws, two wings, fins or feathers, the love we share with them is very real. 🐾🪽

🏉🐾 Grand Final weekend is here!

While we love a big game day, the noise and excitement can be a little overwhelming for our pets.

Between cheering crowds, loud TVs, visitors coming and going, parties and fireworks, it’s worth taking a few extra steps to help your pets feel safe and comfortable.

🐶 Create a quiet, secure space they can retreat to
🐱 Keep doors, gates and windows securely closed, especially if your pet is easily startled
🔊 Keep the TV or music at a comfortable volume
🦴 Give them something familiar to settle with, like their favourite bed, blanket or enrichment toy
❤️ Let them choose whether they want to be involved or have some quiet time away from the excitement

And remember, pets who are normally calm can become frightened when their environment suddenly changes.

If your pet becomes distressed, give them space, reassurance and plenty of time to settle.

🐦 What should you do if you find an “orphaned” baby bird this Spring/Summer? 🌿

Most of the time, these little guys are fledglings, hopping along the ground, learning to fly, while their parents stay close by to feed and protect them. ❤️

So, before you scoop up a baby bird, it’s important to know whether they actually need our help.

🌈 Saying goodbye to Daisy 🌼

Beautiful 13 year old Daisy's family recently said goodbye. We thank them for trusting us to walk aside them during such a difficult weekend and help ensure Daisy was cared for with the dignity, compassion and love she deserved.
Her mum kindly shared:

“Many thanks to vet Laurel for making such a difficult time a little bit easier for me. Hold My Paws handled every step so delicately and truly made me and my Daisy girl feel safe and comfortable.
Thank you for your service and support, it was very much appreciated."

A little moment of gratitude 🌷🤍

Every now and then, something arrives at the clinic that makes us stop and appreciate just how special the work we do really is.

These beautiful flowers were a thoughtful gift for Dr Laurel from a client, and they brought a very big smile to her face. 🥰

Working with animals means getting to know not only our patients, but the people who love them, too. We're incredibly grateful for the trust our clients place in us to care for their beloved companions.

Introducing Kim from Mind & Heart Grief Counselling 🤍

We’re really pleased to introduce you to Kim, a local grief counsellor from Mind & Heart Grief Counselling.

We know that losing a beloved pet can bring a very real sense of grief and loss. While everyone experiences grief differently, sometimes having a dedicated space to talk about what you're experiencing can be an important part of navigating life after a loss.

Kim offers grief counselling, including support for people experiencing grief following the loss of a beloved pet.

🐾 Saying goodbye to Zara ❤️

Recently we said to the beautiful and beloved Zara, whose family shared their kind words:
"Dr Laurel helped us through one of our most difficult times with such care and respect, allowing our special girl to leave us peacefully at home.
The beautiful touches, such as providing us with paw prints, and regular check-ins afterwards to see how we were going after saying farewell have meant a lot to us. We're very glad Dr Laurel was there to support us through such a difficult period.

This Sunday, we’re wishing a gentle and heartfelt Happy Father’s Day to all fathers -to those with children still by their side, those remembering and missing a much-loved child or father figure, and fathers to children of every age, shape and species. 💛

Today, we celebrate the love of being a dad, and hold space for those carrying that love in their hearts. 🐾

🐈 Saying goodbye to Coco 🤍💐

19 years full of love, saying goodbye with the people who loved her.

Her family kindly shared these words:

"It was the hardest decision to say goodbye to our beautiful coco . 19 years of love and cuddles . Co co girl was a huge part of our lives. We cannot thank Laurel and the team at hold my paws enough. The team showed such love and respect to our beautiful girl . They made such a sad time that much easier . They were so careful and gentle with our girl . We thank them for such a peaceful goodbye ❤️"

Sometimes, one of the kindest things we can do is say goodbye while there are still good moments left. 🤍🐾

It is never easy to have to choose when to say goodbye to our beloved pets.
Choosing a peaceful goodbye a little earlier can allow your pets final day to still feel like them. Allowing to say goodbye before a crisis occurs can allow your final memories together full of joy and comfort, over distress to you both.

We never know when it's the right time, but it's ok if we choose to say goodbye on a "good" day.

A "good" day can leave us with memories together in their favourite spots, playing with their favourite toy, or eating their favourite snacks, doing your favourite things together. It also gives families the chance to say goodbye on their own terms, rather than having that moment decided for them by an emergency.

Sometimes, these goodbye's can be the kinder ones on both our furry family members and ourselves.
