BANYULE COUNCIL DOG WORKING GROUP

Hi everyone, I’m part of the newly-formed Banyule Council Dog Working Group, with our first meeting to be held tomorrow.

The Council has formed this working group to help identify key issues impacting dog owners and the wider community, and to develop opportunities for improvement and education around these issues.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or queries that you would like me to raise within this working group 😊🐕🐾

**UPDATE** Toffee has been FOUND!!! Thanks to her doggy friend who sniffed her out in some bushes a long way from home! What a great team effort and what a relief!! 🙏🏻❤️

TOFFEE THE RABBIT IS MISSING!

Toffee was last seen around Charteris Drive near The Boulevard in East Ivanhoe.
She is very much-loved and super-friendly, so she can be easily picked up.
She’s used to playing with the dogs and cat she lives with, so she will be very vulnerable outside of her home environment.

Please contact Kirby on 0458012166 if you find her 🙏🏻🐰❤️

This is so true. Animals need noses, ears and tails as they were meant to be - not deformed by human intervention to make them “cute” or what we want them to be.

WHY CHOOSE A MOBILE (HOME-VISITING) VET?

- pets are more relaxed in their own familiar surroundings.

- convenient and saves time - no hassle with traffic, parking, and fuel shortages.

- fees are very similar (& in some cases cheaper) than clinic-based vets.

- unrushed, one on one consultations which allow personalised care by observing the pet in their own usual environment.

- no risk of picking up a disease in the waiting room - especially important for pets who are not fully vaccinated or immunocompromised/elderly/sick.

- eliminates travel sickness and the fear of car travel and carriers, unfamiliar clinic smells, and other animals in the waiting room.

- can easily examine multiple pets in the one consultation, without the logistics of getting them all to a vet clinic simultaneously.

- great for anxious and senior pets, and pets (and owners) with mobility issues.

- more appointment time flexibility, so ideal for owners with busy schedules.

WARNING - KEEP ALL HUMAN MEDICATIONS OUT OF REACH OF YOUR PETS!!

This is Kevin. Kevin decided to eat his human’s ADHD medication. Just one tablet, but one tablet that could have cost him his life. The tablet was an amphetamine which caused poor Kevin to become incredibly agitated, hallucinatory, vocal and distressed. Nothing like his usual chilled, quiet, happy self - as these photos attest! But I’m pleased to say that he’s now well on the road to a full recovery.

ADHD medications can be attractive to both cats and dogs as they can smell and taste sweet. And there are plenty of other human medications which are dangerous and potential fatal to pets, so please lock them away and keep your pets safe.

Please see the below - Bandida’s current owner is happy to supply several months of food and litter/litter tray.

HOME NEEDED DESPERATELY – LITTLE ONE-EYED CAT, BANDIDA 🐾 (Port Vila)

This is Bandida. I’ve seen her pass through since she was a kitten, living wild and on her own. About 18 months ago she finally came to me for help – very skinny, struggling to survive, and with one eye already lost.

At first, she was like a tiny one-eyed bandit: she’d grab a bit of food and run. But over time she realised humans could actually be friends. Now she’s super affectionate, loves being around people, and has a really gentle, sweet personality. She can be a bit shy when she first meets new people, but once she settles, she’s full of love.

Because of a sudden change of circumstance, I am only days away from not being in Vila. If I can’t find somewhere for Bandida to go, she will literally have nowhere – and after everything she’s been through, I can’t bear the thought of her ending up back on the streets.

So I am desperately looking for either:

A loving permanent home, or

A temporary foster home (even short-term would help so much)

✨ Bandida’s details:

Female, approx. 3.5–4 years old

One-eyed, but otherwise healthy and happy

House-trained

Desexed, flea-treated and wormed

Affectionate, calm, loves human company once she feels safe

She’s currently living in Elluk, but any loving, safe home anywhere in Port Vila would be wonderful.

If you or someone you know can help – even just for a little while – please contact me urgently. You’d be doing something incredibly kind for a small cat who just wants a human friend and a safe place to belong. 💛
