Meet beautiful Bella, a much-loved 17 year old cat who feels a lot more comfortable since we treated her in-grown nails and matted fur last week.
Elderly animals, just like humans, can get in-growing and overgrown nails which are very painful and cause throbbing, infected wounds on their paw pads.
Matted hair can also be more common in older cats, as arthritis and more delicate teeth and gums can make it harder for them to reach around and groom themselves. The knotted hair then pulls on the skin, causing both discomfort and at times a dermatitis (sore skin) underneath the matts.
