Over 10,000km travelled sourcing specimens and nearly 5 years of trial and error. After multiple failed spawns, I'm super exciting to announce we've finally had a successful spawn of Red Tail Giant Gouramis 🎉🎉🎉

Being an Endangered species and possibly the only recorded case of them being successfully bred within a glass aquarium, this has to be one of my proudest achievements in the hobby 👌

Hey everyone, its Tharinda here, for those of you that aren't familiar, this is a project I've been working on for nearly 5 years now. And eventhough I did spend a few of those years being lazy and not really putting much effort in, late 2025 I decided to give it a proper crack.

So I cleared out all my old breeders and started again from scratch. I drove about 4000km to source out 5 new adults to add to the project. And as you can see from the photos, they were some of the nicest specimens I've ever seen 🔥

Once the new fish were settled in, I moved a trio into a breeding tank and gave it my best shot.

As per usual the male built a nest with the occasional help from the females but that seemed to be as far as it went. After about 6-8 weeks of checking daily, I started to think it was probably not going to happen.

As time went on I only checked the cameras weekly since nothing else seemed to be happening. But to my surprise, when I checked the nest today, I saw a couple of good sized fry looking at me from inside the nest.

Going by their size, the adults must have spawned approximately 1.5-2 months ago. And the male must have done such a great job packing the nest, I never noticed any loose eggs floating around.

Anyway, that's enough rambling. I'm just really happy that after all these years I finally managed to get it done.

The fry are currently being grown out at The Aquarium Factory where they will soon be ready for their new homes ( roughly 4-5 weeks from now ) 📈📈📈

So definitely come down and check them out
