Celebrate International Assistance Dog Week 2026 with Side by Side, an original song and music video from Ned and Co.

Side by Side follows the journey of an assistance dog from puppyhood through public access and task training to becoming part of a working team.

The video celebrates the many ways assistance dogs can increase independence, safety and choice. These include retrieving dropped items, opening doors, activating accessible switches, assisting at road crossings, guiding around hazards, alerting to medical changes and finding help in an emergency.

At the heart of the song is the trust and interdependence between an assistance dog and their handler. It also recognises the puppy raisers, trainers, volunteers, families and supporters whose patience, care and time help make every partnership possible.

The video features Abe, a black Labrador assistance dog in training, alongside footage and images celebrating mobility assistance dogs, guide dogs, medical alert dogs and the wider assistance dog community.

Ever wondered why your dog acts so weirdly when they see themselves in a mirror? They might even bark, growl, or act otherwise aggressively towards themselves. The answer is that they don't know it's them in that mirror. They think it's another dog.

While it's obvious to us humans that it's us in the mirror, we are one of the very few species capable of visually recognizing ourselves. Dogs have failed this test over and over again.
They react to themselves in the mirror the same way they would react to another dog.
