Introducing our most recent addition: the incredibly cute and exceptionally bold, Pirate pup!

Pirate came to us via a shelter after being found as a stray with an advanced and incurable eye condition.
The tough decision was made to remove the eye due to the pain it was causing the little guy.

At only 7 weeks of age Pirate has shown that he won’t let anything, even losing an organ, slow him down!! He is bold as brass and loves to tackle the world head on.

He is definitely going to keep us on our toes.

Welcome to the family Pirate 🏴‍☠️

24 hours in care and our dear Echo is starting to feel like her old self again

She’s back out with her four-legged friends, free to explore the open spaces of the farm and do all the things that doggos love to do.

A reset in your safe space, surrounded by your best friends is exactly what we all need when our spark begins to dim.

Welcome home Echo. We missed you 🫶🏻

ps. If you watch to the end you’ll see she’s brought our newest arrival along for the ride. We will introduce you to him tomorrow 🏴‍☠️

If you’ve ever questioned “why rescue groups are so pedantic about selecting adopters?” Please read on:

In the midst of a busy Monday, running preschool aged kids home from gymnastics, before picking up the older child for a dental appointment, my phone rang.

A shelter calling. That’s never a good sign, usually it means one of our animals has been found as a stray. I promptly returned the phone call, only to learn that one of our dogs had been surrendered, apparently due to anxiety that the adopters felt ill-equipped to manage.

The adopter had laid the blame upon us, claiming they had contacted us numerous times but our team had failed to respond to their pleas for assistance.

To the contrary, our foster carers had text the adopter numerous times asking for updates without response, the last email exchange with their vet clinic was from us, and the case manager had last heard from them on June 4th that all was going great. All avenues of conversation were open and none had been active in months.

Echo’s foster carer immediately set off on the 4.5 hour round trip to collect her and bring her back into our care. Echo had spent three days in the shelter and her response to her carer was less than enthusiastic. She appeared a shell of her former self, suppressing her usual puppy enthusiasm and replacing it with apprehension.

We work alongside many shelters and appreciate the important work they do, but our dear Echo was never meant to spend another minute in a pen. She was rescued, by us, from the pound-run many moons ago. And, as we do with all our dogs, we promised that it would be the first and last time she would ever see the inside of a pen designed to house society’s homeless dogs.

Despite all the questions, all the consideration, all the love, care and time, we still got it wrong. Her adopters walk away, while we pick up the pieces of a confused and anxious pup who just keeps trying her best.

Her best and our best, ended with her back in a shelter. Sometimes it all feels very hopeless.

We cannot believe that Spud is still waiting for a home!

Spud is one of the most well rounded, happy-go-lucky, confident, affectionate dogs you are likely to meet. He loves every dog and human he meets and is going to make someone a very proud and lucky dog-parent.

Spud travels beautifully in the car (he even travels well on a plane!) and will eagerly follow you wherever the day takes you. He has well practised cafe-etiquette, loves a leisurely stroll by the river or a sniffari on a picturesque country lane. Spud politely meets humans and dogs alike and makes fast friends wherever he goes.

When you aren’t out exploring together; Spud makes for the ultimate cuddle buddy. He loves to be the “little spoon” almost as much as he loves to dive under the covers to serve as your professional foot warmer. If there is a free lap, couch or bed, Spud will be happy to occupy it.

In his previous life he was living on acreage where he learnt to live alongside horses. He has continued living in a rural setting where he is exposed to livestock regularly.

Spud is a 15 month old, purebred English bull terrier. He is desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed. He is located in Geelong and his adoption fee is $800.

If you are interested in adopting one of the most exceptional pooches you are ever likely to meet, please send us a message with some details about yourself and your home 🌼

This week has seen an unprecedented number of surrender requests submitted to us.

We do our best to help as many of the animals and their owners as possible, but this requires us to have a carer suited to the needs of the dog.

One lucky pup who found her perfect carer is Dora, the 5 month old tricolour border collie. Welcome to the family Dora!

If you are in a position to offer a foster home to a dog in need please send us a message 🙏🏻

Frank (formerly Lola) update! 🫶🏼

Little Lola, now known as Frank, came into care with her brother Charlie. After a very short time, it became pretty clear that while they liked each other for company ... they also argued and competed like siblings tend to do. 😆

So after their boas surgeries, they each headed off to their own foster homes.

And it was the best thing for both of them.

Frank has settled in beautifully and is thriving.
Her facial expressions are our favourite!
She permanently looks like she's judging everyone in the room, she's completely obsessed with her new brother Max (another Yellow Door graduate), and she takes her grooming duties very seriously. If you're sitting still, you're getting a bath. No exceptions.

She's needy in the sweetest possible way, is an Olympic-level cuddler, and has her foster family completely wrapped around her little paw.

Her foster dad was done for the second he met her and we kinda knew she was already home before she even arrived there. 🥰

We wish you nothing but love and happy days, Frank.
You and Maxy boy landed yourselves the best family to give you all that and more.

💛Zuzu

At just 10 months old, Zuzu is the sweetest little guy with the soul of a wise old gentleman. If you didn't know his age, you'd swear he was 70! He's calm, gentle, a little anti social and happiest simply being close to his special people.

Around the home, Zuzu is an absolute dream. He's content snoozing on his own bed (or yours if you'll let him!), and he adores his crate, happily retreating there whenever he feels overwhelmed or just wants a quiet nap in his own safe space.

Like many pups who missed out on important early life experiences, the big wide world can feel a little overwhelming for Zuzu. New environments and unfamiliar situations can be intimidating, so he's looking for a patient, understanding family who are happy to gently help him build his confidence. With kind guidance, continued training and plenty of encouragement, Zuzu is already showing that he's capable of blossoming into a wonderful companion.

Because other dogs can make him feel a little intimidated, Zuzu would be happiest as the only dog in the home where he doesn't have to share his people or worry about keeping up with a canine companion. He also enjoys a gentle pat and a good ear scratch from respectful children, but he'd be best suited to a home without live-in kids, where life is a little calmer and more predictable.

If you're looking for a gentle, loyal shadow with an old soul and a heart full of love, Zuzu might just be your perfect match.

How good was a weekend filled with sunshine? ☀️

We absolutely love what we do, but if we're honest, rescue can be emotionally and physically draining at times.

So we made the most of the beautiful weather, packed up a mix of 7 of our foster dogs and our own crew, and headed to our favourite quiet spot for a much-needed reset.

It was a little chaotic to begin with, but watching this beautiful bunch make new friends, splash around, zoom through the water and simply enjoy being dogs reminded us exactly why we do this.

Sometimes the best therapy is sunshine, the ocean, wagging tails, and seeing dogs get the chance to just be nothing but happy. 💛

Hi! I'm a happy, cheeky young boy with a big heart and an even bigger love for my people.

I'm on the hunt for a family who'll include me in all of life's adventures.
Walks? Count me in.
Road trips? I'm ready to go!
Snuggling on the couch after a busy day? That's definitely my favourite.

More about me:

🐶 Professional FOMO expert – If something's happening, I want to be part of it! Whether you're making a coffee, folding washing, car rides, gardening or watching TV... I'm in!

🐕 Dreaming of a doggy sibling – I'd absolutely LOVE a playful doggy brother or sister to wrestle, zoom, play with and learn from. I think having a best mate would make my world complete.

🚶 Adventure is my middle name – Walks are one of my favourite things, and I stroll beautifully on lead. Whether it's exploring a new trail or wandering the neighbourhood, I'm always ready to go!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 People are pretty awesome – I adore adults and kids and love being part of the family. I do take my role as neighbourhood security officer seriously though! If I think something is a little suspicious, I'll let you know with a bark. As soon as you tell me everything's okay, I'm happy to relax.

🧠 Brains AND good looks! – I'm a clever puppy who's eager to learn and very food motivated, which makes training lots of fun. I just need continued guidance, consistency and love while I grow into the amazing dog I'm becoming.

🚽 I've got the basics sorted – I'm toilet trained, although you'll need to show me where my new bathroom is for the first couple of days.

🛏️ Home is where my humans are – I'm an inside dog through and through. I can happily sleep in my own bed or spend short periods in a crate, but being close to my people is my favourite place to be. I'd really struggle being left outside on my own.

🐾 Social butterfly – I've been fostered with six other dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages, so I've learnt wonderful doggy manners and know how to be part of a pack.

🥩 Growing strong – I've been raised on a balanced raw diet to give me all the nutrition I need while I continue growing into a healthy, handsome boy.

❤️ The complete package – I'm loyal, loving, smart, affectionate and ready to become someone's very best friend. I'll fill your home with laughs, adventures, cuddles and unconditional love.

If you're looking for a puppy who wants to be involved in every part of your day, will adore you with his whole heart, and would love a canine playmate to share life with... I think we might just be the perfect match.

If you think Bullet might be the right match for your home please send us a message or follow the link below to apply:
