Jasper is a lovely, friendly puppy who enjoys people and is looking for a home where he can grow into a much-loved family dog. He came into our care after being surrendered because his owner was experiencing homelessness. Jasper people-orientated and nice-natured puppy. He shows many signs of becoming a wonderful companion.
On our farm, Jasper has shown appropriate caution around animals including lambs, sheep, goats and chickens. He doesn't simply rush in, but he will need continued training and supervision as he grows. Like any puppy, he will need guidance to learn how to behave appropriately around livestock and other animals.
The most important aspect for adopters is to recognise that Jasper is deaf. Deaf dogs require extra care. Deaf dogs are also often noisier than hearing dogs. Training needs to involve non-verbal cues. This becomes particiularly important for when he is off lead. Jasper is unlikely to ever be reliably safe off lead. If he cannot hear you calling him, a normal verbal recall simply isn't available to you. His owners will need to take this into account throughout his life and provide appropriate secure areas, fencing and/or lead management. Jasper's deafness will affect him all his life, in training and management. We want to find him a home that genuinely understands this and is committed to giving him the life he deserves.
Jasper has had a vasectomy rather than traditional desexing while he is young. This prevents him from breeding without removing his hormones during his growth period. His future owners can consider traditional desexing (gonadectomy) when he is fully developed.
Jasper needs an owner who is prepared for the realities of raising a medium-to-large deaf dog, including training, secure containment and responsible management around other animals.

Jasper's adoption fee is $600 and includes all his vetwork (current at the time of his adoption). Jasper is located in Hamley Bridge, South Australia. Interstate enquiries will be considered but not prioritised.
