It all started when hubby noticed I’d left the hay shipping container door open. No big deal, right? Well, that was until we realised two of our four-legged residents were nowhere to be seen! 👀

Turns out, they weren’t missing at all… they’d simply let themselves into the hay container and were enjoying an all-you-can-eat buffet! 🌾😂

And judging by the looks on their faces, they had absolutely no intention of leaving. 🤦‍♀️🤎

🐴✨ New shoes for Roxy!

A little hoof maintenance for Miss Roxy today, with Lane, our wonderful farrier, stopping by to get her all shod to help with some nasty cracked feet! 🧲🐎.

It’s not all fluffy cows and cute baby goats here at Magnolia Ridge — there’s plenty happening behind the scenes to keep all of the four-legged family happy, healthy and looking their best. 🤎

Behind the scenes of Christmas Minis at Magnolia Ridge Estate… 🎄🐮✨

Today was Christmas Minis setup number THREE for this year — and yep, we still check every little detail!

Dragging hay bales a little to the left… then back to the right. Sitting on every bale to make sure the seating works for our families. Shifting the tree. Moving decorations 10cm, standing back, changing our minds… and moving them back again. 😂

Meanwhile, Maggie and V are VERY interested in the Christmas tree and seem determined to either eat it, rub on it or push the whole thing over. 🐮🎄

Then there’s Sam — our photographer and resident deco guru. 📸 She knows exactly what works behind the camera, so everything gets moved, checked and moved again until the setup is just right.

After three years of Christmas Minis together, we’ve got this down to a pretty well-oiled machine — cows included!

Preparation for our clients is key. We want you to arrive, step into the set and simply enjoy the experience while we’ve already taken care of all those little details behind the scenes.

This year’s Christmas Minis with Sam are completely SOLD OUT, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone joining us for another little bit of Christmas magic at the Ridge. 🎄🤎✨

Goats can JUMP! 🐐😂 And our little trio are making sure we never forget it! Flossy, Bambi & Rusty have officially discovered their springs — bouncing, leaping and launching themselves off absolutely anything they can find. 🤎 One minute they’re sweet little angels… the next they’re airborne! Life with baby goats is never boring, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. 🌿✨

A big few weeks ahead for our beautiful boy, James of Gairloch. 🤎🐮

James is due to be collected in just a few weeks’ time — and the timing couldn’t be better because he’s officially done his job with our ladies for the season. 👏🏼😂

So now it’s time for a well-earned rest. He’s taking it easy, keeping himself in good condition and doing all the things a future semen donor should be doing… which, in James’ case, mostly involves eating, relaxing and looking ridiculously handsome.

We’ve been looking forward to this next step for James for quite some time. He’s a bull we are incredibly proud to have here at Magnolia Ridge — beautiful Highland type, genetics we value, and that wonderful temperament we love so much.

Now we’re keeping everything crossed that collection day goes smoothly and our boy delivers the goods. 🤞🏼😂

If all goes to plan, James of Gairloch straws will be available soon, allowing us to preserve his genetics and make them available beyond our own fold.

For now… rest up, big fella. You’ve looked after your ladies — now you’ve got one more job to do. 😂🤎🐮

A pairing we feel incredibly privileged to make. 🤎

There are some animals that become so much more than part of your herd. They’re the ones you admire every time you walk into the paddock — for their presence, their temperament, their genetics and simply for everything they are.

James of Gairloch × Elizabeth Airgead of Maili is one of those pairings for us.

James is an exceptional Highland bull and everything we could have hoped to add to our breeding program. His structure, substance, beautiful nature and unmistakable Highland character make him incredibly special, and we feel very fortunate to call Magnolia Ridge his home.

And then there’s our beautiful Elizabeth. 🤍 She is such a special girl to us. Elegant, feminine and absolutely beautiful, with the sweetest nature to match. She represents so much of what we love about the Highland breed.

Being their owners is one thing, but we really see ourselves as their custodians. We have the privilege of caring for them, preserving their genetics and making thoughtful decisions about the generations that come after them. That responsibility is something we don’t take lightly.

To now have the opportunity to bring these two beautiful animals together feels incredibly special.

Their calf is expected mid-April 2027, and we genuinely cannot wait to see what this pairing produces. 🐮🤎

🌿 Our annual summer break is coming up 🐮🤎

Every year, as we head into the hotter months, we give our beautiful Highland herd a well-earned break from experiences and photoshoots — and 2026 will be no different.

✨ Our final Highland Cattle Experiences & photoshoots for 2026 will be Sunday, 29 November.

We’ll then take our usual summer pause, with Highland Cattle Experiences and photoshoots returning from Saturday, 6 March. 🌿

This little break is an important part of how we do things here at Magnolia Ridge. It gives our animals time to rest, recuperate and simply enjoy being animals during the hottest part of the Queensland summer. ☀️🐮

Magnolia Ridge will still be open during this time! 🤎

🐮 Patting our gorgeous Highland cattle
🐐 Hanging out with the baby goats

🥚 Collecting fresh eggs from the Chicken Palace

No screens. No boring party room. Just kids being kids — outside, exploring, laughing, getting a little dirty and making the BEST memories.
