We’re back, with some good news, and some bad…
Good news is that we have honey available again!
Bad news is that for the first time since the varroa mite incursion to Australian shores 4 years ago, we have discovered it in our hives, and the bees are now struggling 😢
The industry as a whole is doing it tough, and this pest will impact not only on honey supply, but foods that rely on pollination services. This is how important biosecurity is, yet not everyone respects the laws. Varroa mite is here forever now…
So, we had to take the honey off early so we could treat the bees. This is an expensive process that will be required from now on. We don’t even know if it will be successful because there are now varroa mites that are resistant to the treatment. Our production will drop.
As a consequence, we have decided that for the first time in many years we’re raising the price - to $15/kg. This brings our honey in line with the lower average price. Our honey is raw and pure - no sugar syrup. We have kept our price very low for a long time, so we hope you understand.
The other important news is that we’re transferring the business to our son, so contact details and arrangements for picking up honey will change. We appreciate your patience through all of these upcoming transitions.
